Cheeky Chestnut mare!

Clear and bang on the 11 min time allowed 2022 5 star! I have to say I'm a bit of a legend!! Mum did a bit of a history check on my x country record and it turns out I have only ever twice had jumping penalties in cross country since I was 5 years old- pretty impressive for a mini horse! We are lying in 9th overnight. Hooves crossed for tomorrow! ❤️👑🐎

To help with the timing of your half halt in trot...

Imagine your horse’s hind leg as a spring—coil–release, coil–release. Remember that the only moment you can connect to, and add weight to the hind leg is when it’s on the ground. Half halt on the coil moment and release on the next moment.—Rachel Savaadra

Savaadra is a Grand Prix trainer and instructor based in Livermore, California. She has been on the USDF instructor certification faculty for more than 18 years, teaching workshops for trainers around the country.

Good Read

From our 1989 Publication, History of the Irish Draught Horse. Colour seems to interest many breeders, and the breed has lost some of the variety that was there a century ago, especially in bays and blacks, through the World Wars and beyond. The right Irish Draught is never the wrong colour.

Do you really understand how big your horse's lungs are? This picture is a horse's lungs fully inflated...amazing when you think they are enclosed in a horse's body! Did you know a horse takes in 2x 5-Gallon buckets of air ever second? Think of how much that really is. So, do the best you can to help your horse breathe!

The British Horse Society Ireland welcomes the draft Environment Strategy setting out Northern Ireland’s environmental priorities for the future. The Strategy includes delivery of a healthy and accessible landscape that everyone can connect with and enjoy which includes access to outdoor recreation and natural space.
The benefits of countryside access and horse riding not only to physical health but also to mental health and wellbeing are well proven. Increasing and enhancing access supports the Government’s aims to connect people with the environment, to improve health and wellbeing, including more remote and rural areas.

Whilst it is important to protect the access that exists in Northern Ireland which critically links with the historic environment, our work to ensure there are greatly increased safe places for the next generation of equestrians to access outdoors remains of paramount importance. We hope that this strategy will recognise equestrians and multiuser access as a fundamental part of the strategy.

𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬...
𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 -- Equestrians have access to less than 1% of public rights of way in NI. Sadly, 4140 incidents have been reported to the British Horse Society since 2010. In 2020 there were 46 horses killed on rural roads across the UK, 118 horses and 130 riders injured as a result of a collision with a vehicle.

There are an estimated 34,250 horses in Northern Ireland, over 70% of which are kept for recreational purposes. There are not enough places for horses to be ridden or carriage driven safely off road.

Any new public access provision should be made available for all non-motorised users, including horse riders, unless there is a fundamental reason not to do so.
