It was with the heaviest of hearts this week that we learned of the sudden passing of one of Charlestownโs greatest friends and supporters, Liam Gavin. A one-of-a-kind person who we were blessed to have as part of our lives - on and off the racecourse.
Liamโs exploits as a successful owner-breeder speak for themselves in racing. Together we shared many magic days in winnerโs enclosures across the country with horses like Killianโs Garden, Walhaan, Titanium and - most special to him - the prolific Bridge Native. She was a cherished, homebred mare and always the apple of Liamโs eye.
While Liam was constantly ambitious and loved nothing more than leading his horses into the number-one spot, it was in the moments spent away from the track that you really discovered the type of special man he was. There was nobody quite like him.
In days of celebration, he lived for the craic and banter; the winning debrief over a pint or two. But in more challenging times, I promise you couldnโt possibly find a more loyal, dependable and caring person in your corner than Liam Gavin. He had your back through thick and thin. That unwavering support and faith in us was always appreciated.
Each and every one of us at Charlestown are thinking of Liamโs wife Sheila, children Edel, John, Declan and Emma, and the fantastic wider family he leaves behind.
While the past few days have been immensely sad for all of us, we know just how lucky we have been to have had him in our lives. May he rest in peace.
