Congratulations to Robert O'Connor and his St Finian's College Mullingar teammates mates for their recent victory over Killina in the Leinster collages C Quarter Final. Best wishes for the semi final lads 👏 🇶🇦✨

St. Finian's College Senior boys' Gaelic Football team travelled to Killina on Wednesday morning last to face the home side in the Leinster Colleges 'C' quarter final and Sean Murphy's charges produced their best display of the year in carving out a win by the narrowest of margins. The odds on a Finian's victory receded pre match with influential defenders Henry Duncan and James Rusinger ruled out through injury but inspirational tactical tweaks by team manager Sean Murphy proved crucial in overcoming these significant absentees. An action packed and high scoring encounter was fiercely but sportingly contested and the Mullingar school's players were delighted to come out on the right side of the scoreline. Midfielder Cody Ward's early goal set the tone for the visitors and their lively attack caused plenty of problems for the home side's rearguard. Top scorer Robert O' Connor, the livewire Ricky Loran and playmaker Mark Sugrue were the main attacking threats with James Sugrue's defensive work creating space for a pacy full forward line. A second major by Robert O' Connor before half time ensured a half time score of St. Finian's 2-5 Killina 0-9. The second half mirrored the opening moiety in many ways with the Killina side notching some fine scores but Michael Fry, Conor Casey, Aaron Smith and Oliver Brennan were tenacious in defence. Well taken goals by Robert O' Connor and Ricky Loran kept Finian's in front before Killina pounced for their opening goal. The match hung in the balance with Finian's substitutes Aran Glynn and Ben Smith making a notable impact. Goal keeper Ben Gilsenan then produced a stunning save as the game headed into injury time and ultimately his heroics ensured a one point win for the visitors who now face Tullamore College in the penultimate stage. The Finian's squad was as follows: Ben Gilsenan, Rohan Corr, Aaron Smith, Ryan Harrison, Michael Fry, Oliver Brennan, Conor Casey, Owen McMahon, Cody Ward, Sam McNally, Mark Sugrue,Shane Govan, Ricky Loran, Robert O' Connor, James Sugrue, Henry Duncan, Oisin Molloy, James Rusinger, Hayden Nolan, Aran Glynn, Ben Smith, Aodan Sandison, Hugh Isdell.

Our IRELANDS LIGHTS UP CAMPAIGN is up and running & What a start for our club ! We are currently sitting in 44th position with 38 club members having covered 1083.1 km 💪

Help us walk 4,000km by February 12th and enter to win €2,500 for the club!

DON’T FORGET, you can do your steps AT ANY TIME AND PLACE that suits, your fitness class, canal walk, even steps during your daily routine will count.
