While the goal is to have mental and emotional fitness with our horses I think some times we interpret that as being perfect. Acknowledging where you are and then operating from there is an amazing strategy. Own your emotions instead of trying to bury them. You can’t fool the horse anyway so own it and have strategies to go from there.

Sooner or later you’re gonna have to cry and lunge at the same time -

There’s a sentiment in the horse world about being emotionally well before coming to our horses. I agree with this, but, emotions are somewhat like the weather - if you wait for a perfectly clear sky, you’ll never get anything done

There are times where things are rocky, bumpy, uncomfortable. It’s extremely important to not take our emotional storms out on others, especially our horses. It’s important to work on ourselves, but there are times of life where we’re simply not going to be our best, but the world can’t wait.

I think more than anything, horses are uncomfortable with the dissonance we create- saying we’re fine but not being fine, pretending we’ve left our emotions at the gate when it wasn’t possible.

There are times we’re best off staying out of the barn, but I believe there are times where we aren’t our best, where the best we can do is acknowledge our feelings, our limitations, and do our best- to take the work down to what we can reasonably accomplish and be honest with ourselves about it.

There are times in life where you can’t wait for everything to be smooth, but maybe you lower your expectations - and learn the fine art of crying and lunging when things are tough.

Just for your info, I'm not implementing this until April 1st, but I thought I'd let you know sooner rather than later. We have found that with all the increases in costs, etc., we have to raise the cost of lessons to €60 per hour. So, that will mean that a shared lesson is €30, and a private lesson is €60 per hour plus travel expenses.

When booking lessons, I will send a link for a booking fee, which will be 50% of the cost of the lesson. We have found that we will need to enforce our cancellation policy to continue offering our services. If more than 48 hours' notice is given, the booking fee is transferable. If notice is given between 48 and 24 hours, the booking fee is non-refundable. If less than 24 hours' notice is given, the student is liable for the total cost of the lesson. Any lessons cancelled by Chris or myself are fully refundable.
