When our dogs do something that we usually aren’t too happy about we can often react negatively and see the dog in a bad light, this in turn can lead to various results for both humans and dogs.
What if instead, we paused, took time to cool down, and instead looked at ourselves, what part have we played in the action of the dog, in this example we may have left the book lying around, or perhaps left the dog alone for too long, or maybe the dog is bored, under-exercised or lacks mental stimulation (or there may be many other possibilities).
By taking responsibility we can perhaps consider the possibilities before they happen and do something about them before they happen, for example, make sure valuables are out of reach our dogs aren’t so attached to ‘things’ as we are, or perhaps plan for when we go out to either have someone check in on them or ensure not to be away for too long, or give them some enrichment tome or exercise before you go out.
A great thought to remember is: Be solution-focused focused not problem-led!
Sometimes we need help to see from their perspective I can help and support you with this, just pop me a message if you would like to understand the reasoning behind your dogs actions x
