This would be lovely if families would only do this. I know of cats and dogs dumped or surrendered after their loyal and loving owner has passed away. I would definitely come back and haunt my family if they do the same to any pets that I may have left behind after dying

I shared this idea months ago & I'm sure not everyone has seen it. Please share, especially if you know anyone else that doesn't have commitment from a family member (or friend) to take their pets should the need arise.

🐈 When potential complications may prevent family/friends from being able to take pets, there are other options. I suggest you contact 501(c) 3 rescues in your area and locate one that will be willing to accept them. I know some rescues have volunteers that foster long-term if the orphans aren't good candidates for rehoming (age and/or medical needs can make adopting challenging). A written contract should be provided, outlining terms, conditions & details about when the transfer would occur. If you're able to include the rescue in your estate planning, it would be valuable in helping them cover your pets' future expenses. If that isn't doeable, perhaps you could begin making donations to them now (an amount you or your family are able to comfortably afford, monthly or as often as fits your budget) to support the work they do & hope other supporters will donate to take care of yours if/when the time comes. Be patient & call as many rescues w/in a hour or so radius from you until you exhaust all possibilities, many rescues may not have the resources to offer this help. (NOTE: For those interested in saving innocent lives, this is another great reason to volunteer/foster for a rescue near you! 💞)

🐈💞🐈💞🐈‍⬛️💞🐈

And be patient with them! Cats (& dogs & other species) experience loss & grief when their companion (of any species) passes. It can easily take 3 months or longer for them to adjust. 💜

An amazing example to help us understand our dogs and how their senses work

A fun visual representation of what your dog sees (smells) every day. Look at how noisy it is and how many tracks there are intertwining. The different animals, people, and dogs movement in just one area. The snow lets us humans see the history of this area and what animals and people have passed through. A dog will smell this every day and know who and what animals have passed through. Smellavision!!!!

Dogs are incredible.

Imagine tracking and detection dogs needing to filter out all this noise and track a single scent down. Amazing!

(Note this is a fun representation, not accurate)

We had a lovely time meeting all the animals in Back Into Daylight Animal Sanctuary . If you ever have any food or money donations they would really appreciate it. All the animals they take on stay there permanently except for any of the wild birds that are able to be re released.

⚠️ XL-BULLY BREED EXEMPTION DEADLINE REMINDER ⚠️

We would like to remind any XL Bully type breed dog owners that from 1st February 2025, it will be unlawful to own an XL Bully dog unless the owner has obtained a Certificate of Exemption issued by the Local Authority in which the dog resides. An application for such exemption should include Veterinary Confirmation that your dog has been neutered.

The DRCD (Department of Rural & Community Development) is funding a targeted Dog Neutering Voucher Scheme to support members of disadvantaged communities (T&Cs apply) that wish to neuter their dogs but cannot afford to do so. This scheme will have a particular focus on, and priority for, XL Bully type dogs in advance of the 1st February 2025 deadline.

To find out more about the XL-Bully Neutering Scheme, please email the ISPCA as soon as possible at [email protected] or contact an ISPCA affiliated member near you here: https://ispca.ie/affiliate-members/
