DEEL Sighthound Rescue

DEEL Sighthound Rescue We are a sighthound rescue based in West Limerick. In 2023 we received a €15,600 grant from DAFM. Deel Animal Rescue was establishled in 2016. Adopt don't shop!
(27)

We are a registered charity - run solely by volunteers. Our aim is to help abandoned and stray animals in our community get to a place of safety and find their forever home. Home checks apply to all being rehomed. All animals rehomed are neutered and those too young will be booked and date given before leaving our care. In 2021 Deel Animal Rescue received a grant of €4,000 from the Department of

Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The rest of our funding comes from our local community. If you can offer a loving home to an animal please contact us.

Just to say thank you ….

We are so lucky to have 2 very lovely people Katla and Jans as followers, supporters and fosterers who decided to organise a table quiz on 5th June to raise much needed funds for all the dogs in our care. Katla and Jans are both proud parents to their rescued Greyhound Coal and foster parents to our little lurcher puppy Teddy, who came from Limerick Dog Pound. We cannot say how grateful we were for all the hard work and time they put into organising this well run night out.

Thank you to Sextons Bar and all their staff for hosting, to Tara Nix our MC for the night. Thank you to all who donated prizes (see list below 👇🏻)
Thank you to all our supporters who made up teams for the quiz and to those who came and bought tons of raffle tickets and who always show up for the animals 💘

Altogether we raised a whopping €2,000. This went against our vet bill at Adare vet. We are so grateful to you all for your continuous support and most of all thank you from all the dogs in our care ❤️‍🩹💘

Patcheen is a very sweet cat, loves being with people, but is very good at being on her own too. She's very curious about closed doors, and will try to get through as soon as it's opened, typical cat! 😁 She's very playful, gets excited about the birds outside and loooves cuddles and catnip 🫢🤣

*Patcheen is neutered, treated for parazites and vaccinated, litter trained.

** Copied from another rescuers page**

EVERY SINGLE DAY, a rescuer somewhere with 12-18+ animals at their house is bringing home and squeezing in another homeless or lost dog or cat that NO ONE ELSE had room for.

EVERY DAY, a rescuer somewhere with an average job is going in to work late or using their lunch break, they're skipping the gym or dinner with friends to save an animal in the highway or take a foster dog or cat to the vet or to meet transport or bottle feed orphaned kittens or puppies that NO ONE ELSE had time for.

EVERY DAY, a rescuer somewhere that's in the same tax bracket as 80% of the rest of us is swinging by the vet to pick up a $20 flea pill and some dewormer for a stray or to have an injured puppy seen that they found on a back road or picking up a $15 bag of dog food and a dog bed and toy for a dog that got left behind by an owner and has never known the comfort of a bed and the warmth of a home and that NO ONE ELSE could afford to help.

EVERY SINGLE DAY, a rescuer somewhere is holding a paw and giving another little part of their heart to an animal that just will not survive whatever they are facing regardless of the time, energy, and money spent on it. Their hearts are breaking so that animal knows love and has comfort in its final moments instead of fear and loneliness. NO ONE ELSE could stand to watch it die.

EVERY SINGLE DAY, rescue is a choice that some of us make a priority but it's a conviction that's buried deep within us to help the helpless and speak for the voiceless and give everything that we want to say WE DON'T HAVE to save innocent lives that can't save themselves and didn't ask to be here. It's hard to fight. We are haunted by the ones we couldn't help or we lost. We are tormented by living beings that feel pain suffering and being alone. We find room and time and money to do what is in our hearts, as do most people with what they find important. Most people have hobbies. They collect things, restore things, they splurge on treats. They find room and time and money for what they want. There are 2 points to be taken from this:

1. Odds are, everyone at some point just once can find room or time or a few dollars to help an animal in need (or atleast help a rescuer do it.)

2. If you don't care about animals or helping them, at the very least, LEAVE RESCUERS ALONE. Are you allowed to have a hobby and waste your time and money on things that others think are stupid? You mind your hobby and we'll mind ours. I guarantee our rewards for investing far outweigh most other pastimes.

Sooooooooo 😢😢😢😢 after watching last nights RTE Investigates : Horses - Making a Killing .. what does everyone think ?? Is your blood boiling ? Are you heartbroken like us ?? .. .. At the APPALLING cruelty filmed in Shannonside foods by the WELFARE OFFICERS & others ?? Poor poor horses, fallen down, unable to get up from the slippy, dirty concrete, having pitchforks stuck into them with as much force as these monsters could muster, left to die SLOWLY on the wet slimy ground without a shred of compassion or Vet Care .. and these Monsters say ‘every act of cruelty will be investigated’ ??!! When it was THEMSELVES who inflicted it .. with what we are told always ‘that Vets oversee all abattoirs and slaughterhouses’ WHERE WERE THEY ???? .. The beatings, with long, heavy plastic pipes, on the poor horses heads bodies legs .. These are not humans - they are Monsters ..
What can we do ?? Where do we go from here to make sure this DOES NOT happen again ?? Are there horses still waiting in this HELL HOLE until ‘kill day’ next Wednesday we were told, as we saw in RTE Investigates last night with severe injuries, in pain, no water, no care 😞 .. can we help them ??
It will need a city of people to follow this up .. who with though ?? Ispca , Dept of Agriculture. The Gardaí, who ?? This can not continue, please please let’s all do something - starting with contacting/watching Primetime on RTE tonight with a follow-up to last nights shocking, disturbing, program ..

Anyone who places a bet on a horse or enjoys the ‘odd flutter’ any one who thinks horses are treated like royalty once they retire - watch this tonight, if you can stomach it. Anyone who places bets on any animal in the name of sport, has blood on their hands and are every bit a part of the problem.
It’s not until our society as a whole starts to call out cruelty and exploitation for what it is that things will change.

Animals are not here to entertain us!

The racing industry alone will receive €76m in State support this year. But thousands of horses are bred each year to sustain this and other equine pursuits. What happens when they are no longer useful or too expensive to keep?

The investigation exposed evidence of systemic flaws in the traceability of horses and how this was threatening the human food chain across Europe. The work has already prompted investigations across Europe.

In Ireland, RTÉ Investigates analysed data which allowed, for the first time, to profile the background of horses that were sent for slaughter. It has never been possible to fully see the link between the racing and slaughter industries until now.

The data allowed RTÉ Investigates journalists to track back and identify thousands of horses that passed through Ireland’s only licensed horse abattoir.
The majority of the horses were thoroughbred racers, competitors who between them had raced more than 3,000 times, earning their owners more than €1.5 million on tracks across Ireland, the UK and France as well multiples of that for punters.

Viewers will be shocked to see the hidden camera footage in Wednesday night’s documentary capturing evidence of the systematic abuse of horses and activities that threaten the safety of the food chain.

Professor Christopher Elliot, founder of Queen’s University Belfast’s Institute for Global Food Security: “I’ve visited lairages and slaughterhouses for probably about 45 years. I have never seen anything like this. This is … like nothing I have seen ever experienced before it just is unbelievably distressing.”

The wide-ranging investigation will be revealed in a hard-hitting hour-long documentary, RTÉ Investigates: Horses – Making a Killing to be broadcast this Wednesday night, 12 June at 9.35pm on RTÉ One and in an additional special report on Prime Time on Thursday night at 9.35pm on RTÉ One.

Both the documentary and special report across the two nights will be available to stream live and catch up on the RTÉ Player to viewers across Europe and worldwide. www.rte.ie/player

🩶💚🖤 Ginger Happy Home Update 🖤💚🩶

Ginger came to us as a skinny, mangey little girl who was the worse for wear.

Ginger spent some weeks in kennels and then got a five star ⭐️ foster home with the fabulous Karen in Dublin. Ginger spent her days keeping Karen and her Dad entertained and annoying her big foster brother Moose who was very patient with her 😵‍💫😵‍💫

A few weeks ago Ginger headed to the UK to her new Mammy Ann. Ann says she gets up to all kinds of mischief but they love her to bits!!

What more could we ask for!! Major thanks to Karen and all her family and all her dogs who kept Ginger, now Gracie entertained over her time spent with them in foster. We’re sure if she could talk she would tell you how grateful she is to you all. Once again thank you Norfolk Greyhound Rescue for finding Ann and making a little Lurchers dreams come true 💘🥳

💚🩶🖤 Jan Update 🖤🩶💚

We have 3 things, 3 wonderfully happy things to let you know about Jan

First of all, her face and paw, biopsy says it’s not cancer 🥳🥳🥳. We are treating her to help her heal and she is improving every day.

Secondly, Saturday morning Emilia foster Mammy came downstairs to this…. 👇🏻 During the night Jan became a Mammy to two healthy little babies. She is doing great and is the best mother!

Thirdly, on Friday our friends at Fabulous Filo and her Fantastic Friends. Sent a box of love to Jan and she had loads of lovey treats and tasty snacks to try! She can share her toys with her new babies when they are old enough.

We are so relieved Jan was rescued, we are so relieved that Jan didn’t have to give birth in some ditch in dire pain. She is being loved so much by her foster family and she has found a safe cosy place to have her babies.

What a relief for her. We will keep you updated on this miraculous little girl and a huge thanks to Emilia who is absolutely doting on this lady and her babies🩷🩷💘💘

🩶💚🖤 Jason Happy Home Update 🖤💚🩶

Spring time of this year also brought us little Saluki Lurcher Jason. One of volunteers responded to a call about a lurcher who had been straying quite a while and being fed by a lady. She finally got him secured but was unable to get a lead on him or have anywhere for him to go. Jason was an extremely nervous boy and it took a long time for us to be able to gain his trust and for him to allow us to get him safe.

He was a very lucky boy to spent minimal time in kennels and went almost straight to a foster home where he was absolutely adored by his foster Mam.

Fast forward a few months and his forever home came. Sherine and her family in the UK decided that Jason sounded like a good match for their home. It wasn’t long before Norfolk Greyhound Rescue had all the necessary checks done for Jason and made sure everything was ready for his arrival.

Sherine tells us that he is a really easy dog to have around. He is very good and has made lots of new doggy friends. He is a very much loved part of the family already. Jason has come so far from a terrified little boy to a stunning ‘Good Boy’

Live long and happy Boy!
Thank you Norfolk Greyhound Rescue and Sherine for adopting an Irish Lurcher, thank you to his Irish Foster Mammy who helped him start to make sense of life as a pet 🏠💘

🖤💚🩶 Joanie forever home 🩶💚🖤

Some of you might remember Joanie who came to us just before Christmas last year. Joanie came from Galway pound along with 6 other Lurchers. To say she was raggy, bedraggled and underweight would be an understatement. Joanie had mammary tumours, broken toes, torn ears and bad teeth.

She was lucky to go to a foster home where she showed what an absolute gem she was. She had been bred several times and her body was covered in scars but despite all of this cruelty and neglect, Joanie blossomed into a cuddly, sleepy and easy going girl.

Once all her vet work was complete and her biopsies came back clear it was time to work on a forever home for our girl. This took many, many months, sadly sometimes people don’t see passed scars and tired eyes of an older dog and they so often get overlooked.

Joanies fortunes changed when Norfolk Greyhound Rescue did a huge plea for a home for Joanie that was picked up by several media outlets. Not long after, Joanies forever family got in touch wanting to learn more about her and wanting to care for her and show her the love that she so deserved.

On the 22nd of February this year Joanie travelled to the UK to her new home with Peter and his family. Peter had this to say of Joanie:

“ Joanie is in perfect health and is loving her life as a pampered pet. We are lucky to live close to farmland so we are able to have walks around fields She spends most of her day sleeping or following me around when I'm doing the chores. She's made a huge difference to our family. It's hard to remember what life was like before she arrived!”

We couldn’t ask for a better update from her family. Thank you to everyone who made Joanies dreams come true
Live long and happy girlie 🩷🩷

🥳💚🖤 Gifts for the dogs 🥳🖤💚

We want to say a huge thank you to the very lovely Heather who so generously sent us these beautiful snoods for the winter for the hounds.

As you know Sighthounds have quite long necks, and so to keep them cosy during the winter, knitted snoods such as the ones Heather so nicely made for the dogs are a god send. They are so stylish and pretty, the hounds will love them.

We will keep them safe for them for the winter. Thank you so much Heather 👏🏻

If anyone else out there loves to knit please consider knitting for the homeless hounds in our care 🖤💚🩶🙏🏻

She was picked up trying to sleep in a plant pot in the garden she had strayed into.

Here she is in her new home since February 2023 being loved and adored by her wonderful family.
What a gorgeous video of a wonderfully happy dog who was lucky to get that second chance!

Thank you again Norfolk Greyhound Rescue for your partnership with our Irish Lurchers 🩷

💚🩶🖤 Happy Home Update 🖤🩶💚

Early in the year little man Silas came to us, needing a safe place. He spent time in kennels until he eventually got a home offer with our friends Norfolk Greyhound Rescue from a lovely lady called Denise.

Silas is now called Fen and Denise sent us a lovely update to say :

“Ah thank you he is such a star. Wants to say hello to everyone.
He is groomed every day and has really settled in well.
We are all well thank you hope u are too. X”

Fen came as all Lurchers do, little kind gentle scraps of things just needing that chance. Here is our Fen looking a million dollars. The difference that love and care makes to these dogs is just like day and night as you will see from the lovley photos below, I mean check out the ears!👇🏻

Live long and happy Fen, thank you Denise and Norfolk Greyhound Reacue 👏🏻👏🏻💘💘
