What is dog socialisation?
🐾 Dogs who remain neutral in multiple environments they feel safe / confident when entering and remain in
🐾 Dogs who can be alongside other dogs they feel safe around and not necessarily have to interact with
🐾 Dogs who interact with/ play with and walk with other dogs they feel safe / confident around
What is NOT socialisation?
🙅🏻♀️ Forcing your puppy / dog to interact with every dog or in large groups
🙅🏻♀️ Forcing your dog to enter busy areas that might not be their thing
🙅🏻♀️ Not giving your dog CHOICE to leave a situation / location they are not happy in
So what can I do to help my dog?
🐾Basic autonomy and choice is key in your relationship with your dog.
🐾 Build a mutual relationship with your dog where they feel safe communicating with you
🐾 Zero consequences for your dog expressing themself in situations that make them uncomfortable.
Things that make me question the ‘trainer’
🫠 Mixing a large group of untrained / unsocialised puppies / young dogs and calling it socialisation (yes that includes daycare)
🫠 Trainers who question properly socialised, yet reactive dogs being able to get on with ANY other dog ever again …
🫠 Disagreeing with me and talking poorly about me ONLY because they don’t like me as a human, not because I am a bad trainer.
What can I do for you?
🙌 Teach Mantrailing as a sport to gain confidence in your relationship with your dog
🙌 Help with reactivity training
🙌 Socialise your dog properly with dogs who are appropriately social on all different levels
🙌 Listen to your concerns, do my best to answer questions (I’ll get the answer if I do not know) and share my snacks while we train our dogs

✌🏼 Changing small things and thinking on your feet can de-escalate situations!
Here is our small change that kept everyone safe! (Which is the most important thing in multi dog households)
🐾 Today we had peanut butter in cow ears for our treat
🐾 Raven and Ruckus didn’t go into their beds as usual, but we’re okay next to each other
🐾 This made Piper overthink, so she kept walking around Ruckus and his treat
🐾 Ruckus gave her a low growl (He doesn’t like anyone near his high value treat)
🐾 To keep everyone safe, I called Piper over to the kitchen and she did a ‘go find’ in my shoes
🐾 Everyone was happy, everyone was safe, everyone got a treat and now everyone is relaxed
🎤 Volume up !!!
Judging just from noise - does it sound like these two are fighting or playing?
Would you be worried if you were out and saw two dogs play like this?
Though my guys sound like wild bears when they play, they are actually REALLY good at judging each other and de-escalating during play so it does not get too intense.
Notice they present to each other from a side point of view and not head on, they take breaks, shake it off, and have loose body language.

🐾 I like to include my chihuahua in explaining management when it comes to training and living in multi-dog households.
✌🏼 He is currently enjoying his trachea in his crate, because he ran Piper for her cow ear.
🫠 Yes, my 3kg chihuahua pushed his way into my 37kg German shepherds treat 😦
🤗🐾 so, we did a “trade-ya” and the treat into the crate and now everyone is relaxed and enjoying their own sh!t in their own space 💪🏼(Raven takes hers upstairs and Piper and Ruckus settle on their mat)
👏🏻 very important to include dogs of all sizes, shapes and ages in the management plan to ensure a calm and safe environment when inside the home- for both ends of the lead 😉
