🐾 Sandy’s Road to Recovery🐾

Meet Sandy, an 8 year old Springer Spaniel. Sandy has been managing her epilepsy well on medication but during the summer her journey took a challenging turn. Here’s a look at her timeline through a remarkable recovery;

🗓️ July 5th - Sandy was admitted, feeling very unwell with vomiting, no appetite, and discomfort. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis, requiring immediate hospitalisation.

🗓️ July 5th-15th - During her stay, further tests revealed she had a biliary duct obstruction, dangerously high liver values and her bile flow was compromised. Our lovely vet, Dr Themis preformed surgery to place a biliary stent which helped restore bile flow and relieved the blockage.

🗓️ July 15th-25th - Sandy continued her stay with us for extensive post-operative treatment including fluid therapy, medications and a nasogastric feeding tube. Slowly but surely, Sandy began to regain her strength.

🗓️ August 23rd - At her recheck, Sandys liver enzymes had returned back to normal, her progress was fantastic. She made a full recovery!

Sandy’s journey was not an easy one but her resilience, strength and incredible spirit carried her through. A huge thank you to Dr Themis and our team for guiding Sandy’s care every step of the way, and to Sandy’s family for their patience and trust.

Today Sandy is back to her energetic self and we couldn’t be happier. The photos above were taken at Sandy’s check up in August- what a joyful moment. You are so brave Sandy🐾💛

Christmas time is full of wonderful and delicious food for us humans, however, some of these wonderful foods can be toxic for our little pets 🍫🍬🍗

🌟Christmas pudding and mince pies - These contain dried fruit like raisins which are toxic for dogs and cats as it affects their gut and kidneys.
🌟 Bones- They can shatter and cause potential damage to your pets by causing internal injuries or obstructions
🌟Chocolate - chocolate contains theobromine which is a fine for humans but toxic for dogs and cats.
🌟 Macadamia nuts- These can cause vomiting, lack of coordination, weakness, overheating and lethargy in your pets, especially small to medium breeds!
🌟 Alcohol- dogs and cats cannot metabolise alcohol and any amount can pose risk to your pets.
🌟 Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs and even a small amount can cause low blood sugar, lack of coordination and seizures.

It is important to be familiar with different risks and contact the clinic if your pet has potentially consumed any of these foods!
Stay educated and safe to ensure you have the happiest Christmas with your furry friends 🐾❤️🎄

Meet Truffle✨

As his owner said “Truffle loves attention” so today is dedicated to that❤️

Truffle came in for a dental descale and polish. Luckily, Truffles teeth were still strong and healthy so he just needed to get the tartar cleaned off. Truffle went home with pearly white teeth and fresh breath🥰

✨Koda’s Sparkling Smile✨

Koda came in to us last week for a dental descale and polish. She was very anxious but our lovely vet Dania, nurse Sinead, and the rest of our team worked hard to make her feel safe and comfortable every step of the way, by letting Koda set the pace, we were rewarded with a wagging tail and most of all her trust 💓

Dental hygiene is just as important for our furry friends as it is for us. Dental disease can be very common in dogs and cats and if left untreated it can lead to pain, infections, and end up affecting their overall health. Some signs that your dog or cat may need a dental check include; bad breath, yellow or brown tartar buildup, difficulty eating, red swollen gums, excessive drooling and more. 🦷

Swipe through to see Koda’s before and after photos. Look at that fresh sparkling smile, isn’t she just gorgeous!🤩🐾

If you have any questions or would like to book in for your cat or dogs dental check contact us, we’re happy to help 💓

🐾Meet Rex - A True Fighter🐾

Rex is a 13.6 year old collie cross, he is a regular visitor for arthritis management and an absolute sweetheart 🩵 In October his owner noticed some persistent diarrhoea that didn’t improve with medication or dietary changes. Our vets decided to investigate further.

🩺 After running blood tests and carrying out an abdominal ultrasound, we discovered a large mass near his spleen. To ensure Rex got the care he needed, we performed a splenectomy and sent the mass off to histology.

🎉 Great news! The results showed a benign hematoma with no signs of neoplasia (cancer). Rex has made an incredible recovery, he had his stitches out a few weeks ago and is now back to his happy, loving self, feeling much better 🤩

Rex’s story highlights the importance of regular check ups and quick action when something feels off. We’re so proud of Rex and his amazing owners for always having his best interest at heart. 🩵

✨Diabetes Awareness Post✨

Meet our brave patient Mr Cas. This sweet 10 year old Shih Tzu cross was diagnosed with diabetes a number of years ago. Here’s what Cas’s pawrents shared about his journey with diabetes, his symptoms, how they found out he had diabetes and how they manage his journey together;🐾🩵

‘We noticed subtle signs at first, he was eating, in good form and active but was loosing abit of weight, his thirst increased but due to him being so active, it was put down to this. One day he was not interested in his walk, started shaking and seemed very off so we brought him down to Raheny Vets. They did a full check up including blood tests, a urine test and a curve test which led do his diagnosis, he also has cataracts in his left eye which is another symptom! He receives daily insulin injections, he is monitored regular and we haven’t looked back since! He’s as happy as Larry (whoever that is) he’s the best boy!’

Managing diabetes in pets takes teamwork- our vets, nurses, their family and a little extra TLC from us all. Cas gets plenty of this, especially from his brother Walter. 🐶 🐾 🩵
