Rathdowney Men's shed Opening hours:
Tuesdays 10am - 13pm and wood work at 14pm to 17pm. Thursdays 10am -13pm. Music for beginners and novices on ukalees for members and new members from 12 -13pm on Thursdays.

We have state of art workshop for those who would like too try wood work and wood turning. Or fancy want chat and relax that's fine too.
For insurance purposes members can only use the work shop .

It is important to realise that some breeds tend to matt more if there not brushed out and combed 2 to 3 times a week in between grooms. Clip downs.( when hair is regrowing from root).
Owning a dog comes with certain responsibilities.
One of these is protect your pet from distress and diseases. If dog has severe matting in heat it is torture. Because the skin is wrapped into matt and dog skin over heating and cannot breathe this is a heaven for fungal infections fleas lice mites and thicks to thrieve.
This can all be prevented if certain steps are taken.

Hi to all clients . New research shows:
Dogs that have long silky coats or combination coats need have there coats brushed and combed 3 times in between groomingg appointments and to have there coats tangle free and this serves as purpose to protect there skin from sun and the able regulate there temperature when the weather fluctuates during hot and cold temperatures.
if there matted the air flow is blocked and fungal infections and exoparsites like fleas and ticks may thrieve in their coats which may make your pet ill.

Countryside and dogs.
As land users or visitors we must respect farmers. They work hard all year round to tend to their flocks and herds and to keep them safe.
When your dogs off the lead and running around, you should be able to call your dog instantly and bring your dog to heel before a probblem arises.
April to June is very important Callander date for sheep farmers. They have young and some are still in lambing. Border collies, German shepards are herding breeds and were bred to herd.
All dogs have imprint primal instinct to chase catch and kill. More so in working dogs and herding and protection breeds. Kown as Primal drive.
Dogs need to be off lead. But we must have them under control. Be in control we are pack leaders.
Unfortunately farmers have rights to report sheep kills and dispatch a problem dog on their land.

When is time too trim your dogs nails.
If your dogs nails are tapping on the floor. Or closer inspection their getting long and starting to affect the foot structure. Nails starting to curve. Under their pads.
There is one important nail that is fith digit known as their dew claws.
For comparison if you take wild dog or wolf in the wild they use their nails to tare and bring down their prey resulting in their tips of there nails to be worn down naturally. Domestic dogs need their nails trimmed working dogs too. Bescuse their not doing the same work as their cousin's.
It is important to get into the habit of checking them once a week and trimming professionally once every 3 weeks. Their dew claws have clipped as they grow conntinously.
Poor health an over weight dog especially need their nails checked too. Bescause if not nail and bed of nails grow crocket they may need veterinary assistance and treatment. Infection can cause discomfort ans pain and left un treated then other morre serious health complications may occur.

This is mix breed and is beautiful natured dog. His has fantastic gait when his off the lead. Because his a cross between border collie 3/4 I have to be careful where he is let off. He comes back to whistle.
All good. But it's lambing season as owner I have to be be careful I have to respect the country code. He would unfortunately because of his nature follow cattle and sheep.
Therefore in wilderness low mountainous areas in mountain there actually commonmange areas grazed by farmers. And farmers if a dog is sighted on there land chasing sheep or worrying cattle they have right too take appropriate measures too protect there livestock. If I was walking in these areas I would have long lead and strong fitted comfortable harness.
This would same apply to bogs that are surrounded by farmland grazing areas

Hello I am feeling positive about life and feeling positive about work. I wish all new groomers in the area the same thing.
We are all in the same boat. I qualified in 2007. I also worked hard building up this business. Setting up any business in these times is brave and may I wish them well. Its life competition is good
