This poor little girl came into our care recently. She was found by a kind member of the public, with a bad injury to her leg and with a severed tail. We don't know how her injuries came about it's possible she was attacked by another animal or caught in something😞

She's now had veterinary treatment and is recovering well after her ordeal.❤️

Her vet bill came to around €700.

If anyone would like to contribute to her care, they can donate on our website:

https://www.catsaid.ie/donate/

Or perhaps consider purchasing Christmas cards from us:

🐱Monday Meows 🐱

A weekly check-in with some of our cats that have gone on to live their best lives in their forever homes❤️

This week, we are checking in with stunning Bowie Bigglesworth, who was adopted over 10 years ago! Here's what his Mom has to say about him:

'He’s been living his best life for the last 10 years and is very much the boss. He now has 4 cat siblings (all rescued) that he tolerates and 2 human slaves 😍'

You can keep up with Bowie and his adoptive siblings 🐾

🐾Adopt me Thursday 🐾

Meet Klaus 😍

Klaus is a very friendly, playful boy who doesn’t believe much in personal space.  He is about 4.5 years old.
He loves other cats but is usually too playful for other cats and is also very affectionate and loves pets & cuddles from people.
He loves his food and will eat whatever is on offer. His new owners will have to watch his waistline!
Klaus really enjoys using cat trees and climbing, so it would be great if he had these in his new home too.

Klaus knows how to use lots of puzzle feeders and is also trained (some in Irish!) to sit, come, fist bump, twirl, and nose target. He’s a clever boy who likes to be busy.

He has an old injury to his eye from when he was a kitten, but it causes him no pain/problems, and it has been checked by vets over the years.
He has lived with a dog, and will play with a friendly dog.
He is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
Klaus is a mischievous and clever boy who knows how to open door handles and cabinets, so his new owner will need to be aware of this and they may need to install child locks.

He is looking for an indoor home and would prefer a house over apartment life, he could live in a house with older children.

Klaus loves company so someone who works from home would be ideal for him.
Please email us at [email protected] if you if you are interested in adopting Klaus🐾

Reminder from Gino 🐈‍⬛️ to keep your cats in from now until after Halloween 🎃
Many animals will get spooked from fireworks and can go missing.

Keep them in, keep them safe 🏠🐾

The concept of enrichment is actually quite simple. It's basically anything that enriches the lives of our animals.

It has seen huge popularity in the last few years, and now there are toys and products in near infinite designs all geared towards enrichment.

Enrichment was initially a concept born to improve the lives of zoo/captive wild animals who lead very sedentary lives in much smaller space than their wild counter parts.

As time has gone on our pets are experiencing a similar change and living quieter lives than previous generations, indoor cats and apartment dogs are more common than ever in Ireland thousands of cats and dogs are also spending extended amounts of time in pounds and rescues centres everyday. As their guardians, it's our responsibility to provide a good standard of welfare and allow them outlets for natural behaviour (which they often have to suppress around humans). This is where enrichment comes in, it doesn't have to cost a fortune and you don't need every new 'enrichment' toy on the market, although they can be a useful tool in our arsenal!

Do you have a cat scratching post? Do you walk your dog? Then you are already providing some enrichment! But we can always improve things. For example, do you stop and let your dog sniff? Do older cats have horizontal scratching mats to accommodate older joints? There are a million ways enrich the lives of our pets and we should always center it around the individual, it isn't about one size fits all or having designing a program that will have them knocking kibble out of a ball for 2 hours, it can be small moments everyday that improve their lives.

Here are 10 ideas:

1)An empty egg carton as a puzzle feeder
2)Food rotation/novel foods
3)Teaser toys
4)Catnip/Valerian/Matatabi
5)Adding a bird feeder near windows (Indoor Cats only)
6)Cardboard boxes
7)Multiple beds /resting areas around the house
8)Cat TV (on YouTube)
9)Brushing (for cats that enjoy this)
10)Cuddles and quality time spent together ❤️

A lot of these sound relatively simple, but it this post is really just the tip of the iceber on the topic or enrichment. Let us know if you want to see more about it here🐾

🐾Adopt me Thursday 🐾

Meet Woody🥰

Woody (approximately 5 years old), an affectionate Smoky Ragdoll, is a testament to resilience. Found on a bed of leaves near a GAA pitch with limited mobility, he has overcome extraordinary medical challenges to emerge as a lovable and low-maintenance companion. Subsequent rehabilitation revealed that Woody has arthritis, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), and Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV). Despite these diagnoses, he remains generally healthy and his arthritis pain is managed with prescribed medication.

Woody’s time outside has left a small mark on his nose, causing some sun damage. However, this does not hinder his adorable charm. Woody needs to be an indoor cat and is best suited for a single-cat household or for a home with other cats who share his medical conditions.

Woody’s playful spirit shines through his love for chasing teaser toys, indulging in grooming sessions and treats. He thrives in a quiet environment and currently enjoys being a ‘home office’ cat. If you seek a loving and unwavering companion to grace your home, Woody is the perfect match. He is ready to share his warmth and affection with a patient and understanding family who can appreciate his unique qualities.

Woody is neutered and vaccinated and all set for his new home. If you are keen to adopt Woody please get in touch with Cats Aid today by emailing [email protected]
