A few weeks ago, and myself had a dry-run for our Insta Live scheduled for this week. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond Caroline's control we have had to reschedule the Insta Live until next year. However, I digress. We chatted about this and that and one of the topics was people trying to discredit what we do. I guess it's inevitable that 'flat earthers' are always going to be on the horizon (!) regardless of what industry you are in, but never more so in those industries that challenge out-dated beliefs such as Applied Zoopharmacognosy. Alot of people dont like change, it threatens them, they prefer to stay in their comfort zone. After all change can be scary. And there they will stay until the Universe forces them to move out of it! (As many of you that are Aware will know!!) When some people are threatened or are hurting inside, the first thing they do is to attack, repeating old childhood patterns and cycles. There is a saying that 'Hurt people, hurt people'. How true. Engaging with people that attack only feeds their need to continue to attack as well as feeding their need to Be hurt and so the cycle is perpetuated. Sending Love, Compassion and Understanding, if you can, is best - not always easy but best. After all, everyone, absolutely everyone, is only responding from our own level of consciousness. Have a fabulously peaceful day ❀ Check out Eckhart Tolle on YouTube to understand more about Awareness and Consciousness!

Fantastic post explaining how dogs have a two way system for breathing! Thanks Sue's K9 Solutions. Great Insta Live last wednesday too!πŸ˜ƒ

Following on from the live with Carly during the week, here is a pic of one of those wonderful noses we spoke about 😊 and I wanted to show (and clarify) how it works… on the pic you can see clearly the slit on the bottom of the nose, a specific design that actually improves scent detection. When the dog exhales, the air is directed down and out through these - not the same location where they inhale! This prevents the already sniffed and analysed air from mixing with the β€˜new’ air and by exhaling down and away, the odour in front of the nose is actually drawn towards it

*DO DOGS πŸ• HAVE THE ABILITY TO GRIEVE?*
A recent study using the validated online Mourning Dog Questionnaire successfully attempts to analyse and quantify the grief -related responses in both dogs and owners to the loss of another dog in their home.
The writers conclude that more research is needed as their findings observed behavioural changes might be indicative of separation stress after loss.
We are aware of this in our practice with zoopharmacognosy with canines and have observed them selecting specific oils that help the individual recover from their loss. πŸ’š

*WHAT DOES SELF MEDICATION MEAN? * πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“
Yesterday we shared what the word Zoopharmacognosy means. In today’s post you can see a New Forest Pony🐴 licking and chewing on charcoal. It is thought that charcoal can absorb toxins and support their digestive system when needed. There is virtually no nutritional value in charcoal and research suggests that animals consume it for its toxic binding properties and medicinal value (Engel, 2003).
In our experience of practicing applied Zoopharmacognosy for over 10 years, our domesticated horses also have the same innate ability to self-medicate as their wild counterparts.

If you would like to know more about the research 🧐 and science πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“behind animals self-medicating, then click on the link in our bio ☝ to find out more through our workshops. We want to share with you this fascinating subject and empower our beautiful animals! πŸ’š

*OFFERING & SELECTING TIP* πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“
Try to offer your powders in a scoop/dish to avoid moist breath wetting the powder and making it damp and congealed and therefore unusable. πŸ˜…This is particularly important for our super concentrated 5:1 powders Liquorice root and Dandelion root !

*CASE STUDY ’DOG’ RESOLVES PANNUS DISEASE*
β€˜Dog’ πŸ•as she is affectionally known is a beautiful German Shepherd in Limerick.
She was diagnosed by her vet with pannus disease (an autoimmune condition resulting in blindness, normally considered incurable). One of her main selections was Arnica CO2 and Spirulina - both stimulate immune response.
Please head over to our blog πŸ‘‡ to read the whole story on how β€˜Dog’ resolved her sight and condition via Zoopharmacognosy. Along with our Team vet’s Annett's advice on re triggering Dog's immune system and Dog’s willingness to engage, this really is a fascinating read. πŸ˜„

*WHICH OILS ARE SAFE TO USE *

The use of quality essential oils for Zoopharmacognosy is right at the forefront of the ethos behind offering for self-medication. By quality we mean undiluted, unadulterated (pure) with no preservatives or synthetic additives. Generally speaking, many oils supplied mainstream for aromatherapy, for example, are regularly adulterated with preservatives and thinners to dilute, hence the lower price and are often blends which are unsuitable for Zoopharmacognosy as the animals cannot differentiate between the oils.
An inferior oil will have an impact in self-selection due to the horse not being able to truly select what they need.

There is no official body that grades essential oils, so it is important that you know you are buying from suppliers like us that source from the farmers and producers that provide a Gas Chromatography (GC) reading which ensures the oil is pure. This analysis identifies the chemotype of the oil (distinct chemical properties of the plant) and also of any adulteration.

*CLEAN & ECO YARD & HOME *

With global warming on the increase and the need to help our planet on an individual basis endeavours to practice eco based hygiene routines around the yard and farmhouse. It's always a work in progress as we're always looking for ways to minimise our carbon footprint (we planted 1200 trees over 10yrs ago to try to mitigate it further) but as usual a lot done but more to do! What measures do you take? And what measures can you aspire to? Just a small change can make a big difference!

So, listed below are our current measures that we are always looking to add to - so throw your ideas on the table!
*Jet wash the stables 3-4 times a year depending on usage
*We use green clay and vinegar throughout the house and yard as cleaning products - great to keep the sceptic tank alive too!
*Refillable vessels for as many products as possible (Ecover washing up liquid, hand soap etc!)
*Lemongrass for its antibacterial properties and fresh smell on our house floors
*Powdered Lime for the bottom of our Chicken and goat homes
*Separate wheelbarrows for hay and mucking out and regularly rinse out
*Hoof picks cleaned in tea tree oil and water
*Wash out feed buckets regularly with hot soapy water
*Unused or unsuitable hay bales used for mulch in our orchard
*Muck-heap collected by local gardeners to use as fertiliser in old forestry bags that are returned and re-used

In 2022 we pledge to increase our offering of recycled and recyclable packaging for our herbs and powders and continue to strive to be self-sufficient with our home grown produce.

*TOP TIP* We don’t advise the use of essential oils to wash out your horses water buckets as they may not have selected the oil, and this runs the risk of them not wanting to drink their water.

Helping Dogs maintain and restore health

We work with the dogs ability to self-select plant extracts in order to restore and maintain health. Dogs exceptional olfactory capabilities means that they can detect the medicinal qualities within plants that they need in order to redress the imbalance that is creating the ill health. We run workshops in Ireland as well as work with Canines on a one-to-one basis at Whitethorn Farm, Co Sligo
