🐕 Happy International Dog Day! 🐾

Dogs really are the best, aren't they? Every day, they greet us like we’re the most important person in the world—even if we’ve only been gone for five minutes. They teach us about unconditional love, loyalty, and living in the moment. They ask for so little and give us so much. My life has been forever changed because of dogs.

They make me smile when I'm sad, and laugh when I need it most. I love working with them, playing with them and training them to be the version of themselves. I don't train robots and I too can also be frustrated with their antics sometimes, but deep down, I know they’re just living their best lives, being dogs—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

From guide dogs to therapy dogs, mountain rescue dogs to herders, and, of course, your furry best friend at home, dogs are unsung heroes in every corner of the world.

So, pause for a moment, stop what you are doing, and give your dog a cuddle, let them know your love, and let’s celebrate them today and every day. 🎉

Well Said Dog Nerd Training ....

In the age of the internet, we are lucky to have so much information available to us right at our fingertips, and this means that a lot of people choose to forgo in-person training when they feel that they can get the same content from a quick google search. There is no point, they think, in spending the money when they can just figure it out for themselves! 🤷‍♀️

To an extent this is true, you can teach 'sit', 'down' and 'stay' at home if you like, but puppy classes are SO MUCH MORE than that.

🐶 A good puppy class should give you a huge variety of useful information, not just basic training - we cover basic first-aid, nutrition, and confidence-building in our classes (to name but a few).

🐶 The trainer will know you and your puppies as individuals and give ongoing personal support - something that no online video, or google search, can do.

🐶 They will know a wide variety of tricks of the trade from working with so many different dogs on a daily basis. These can be revelations to new, and old dog owners alike.

🐶 The class gives you the opportunity to meet other local puppy owners at the same stage as you, and make friends and a support group for both you and your puppy, for life.

🐶 You can practice behaviours your dog may already know in a distracting but controlled environment - something which is key for 'proofing' cues, whether learned in class or at home.

The fact is good, scientifically endorsed puppy classes have been scientifically proven to have a positive effect on the development of your puppy, something that is not worth missing out on!

Who's looking sharp in his Dry Robe! Hurley is 14 years young, and while he thinks he's still a puppy, there are just some things he can't do anymore. Shaking himself dry is one of them!! So whenever he's had a morning dip, or the odd pampering shower and I need to dry him properly, I've found the Made in Ireland DogDry a godsend. You might think a towel will do the trick, but honestly, if you've a dog that loves the water, these are just great! Not a paid ad or anything, just love the product! Thumbs up if you think he looks sharp! 😂✌️🐕😍🤩

🐶 At this critical stage of their development, puppies are incredibly receptive to learning about their environment. What might be safe and what might be scary? This period is what is known as a SOCIALISATION WINDOW.

Did you know that the socialisation window is from 3 to 16 weeks? This is the prime time to expose a young puppy to a variety of experiences, people, and other dogs in a controlled, positive way. Without this exposure, it will invariably lead to behaviour problems as an adult dog.

Our Puppy School focuses on encouraging positive and neutral interactions with other puppies and humans. 🐾 Had an incredible time visiting the DSPCA dog shelter today! 🐶 The staff are amazing, the facilities top-notch!

Choosing to adopt a dog from a shelter like the DSPCA instead of buying from a breeder, is vital for providing a second chance for dogs, cats and animals in that the majority of the time, find themselves down on their luck and without a home through no fault of their own.

So if you're considering adding a four-legged companion to your family, look no further than the DSPCA . Adopt, don't shop! 🏡❤️
