Meet Hugo, a 4-year-old Dachshund, who recently came in for a check-up after her owner noticed some concerning signs. Hugo was experiencing blood in her urine, frequent urination, and accidents in the house. After trying medical management with no improvement, we quickly moved to x-rays to check for bladder stones.
We found two large bladder stonesโthese needed to be surgically removed. Bladder stones can form when there is high mineral content in the urine, which stick together and build up to create large stones over time.
Hugo underwent surgery, and we removed two large stones and three smaller ones. We're happy to report that Hugo is fully recovered and feeling much better! She's back to her old self, with no more issues urinating.
Hugo will continue on a special diet to help prevent any future stones, and regular check-ups and urine exams will be essential in Hugoโs ongoing monitoring.
If your dog or cat is showing any of these symptoms โ it could be a sign they have bladder stones or a urinary infection โ
