HODOKU DOG TRAINING EST 2014
Hodoku-an ancient Japanese canji going back to the times of Samurai. It means Compassion. HDT uses humane, scientifically endorsed and proven techniques and practices in training dogs and in assessing and rehabilitating behavioural problems. The techniques do not involve, force, pain, the use of training tools such as choke chains. It is about the owner learning what it is that the dog responds to best in training tools, and reinforcement of good behaviour. Clients and dogs are trained together and the owner is helped to gain knowledge and understanding of how their dog thinks, learns and therefore helps them to develop an even more special bond.
I am a qualified positive reward based trainer. I use motivational based techniques using food, toys, praise, or a combination of all three. I use motivational methods in conjunction with the use of “markers”. With over 40 years experience, I get as excited today as I did 40 years ago when I learn something new about training my own dogs, and those of my clients.
I am a qualified and certified dog training instructor (PDTI) with Merit, and hold an honours degree in Behavioural Science. I hold the Adv. Dip. CBM (Advanced Diploma of Canine Behaviour Management.) now also known as The Advanced Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour (Canine)-AdvDIP.AABC. This is an internationally accredited and recognised 3 year Course, Degree Level , applied behaviour qualification for Canine Behaviour Consultants.
I am a member of ISAP (International Society of Animal Professionals). With a lifetime of being with dogs behind me, as well as experience of competing in Agility and Obedience in the UK my passion is to develop the bond between dog and owner. I am also enrolled in the Dunbar Academy which enables me to continue regularly update and maintain the best of current practice.
