Thanks to everyone in Kilmacanogue, Bray, Greystones, and right across Wicklow (and beyond), for a really great response to our campaign to save the slopes of the Little Sugarloaf mountain. Together, we lodged more than 2530 seperate written objections with Wicklow County Council in just two short weeks! THATS A LOT OF PEOPLE POWER, AND A LOT OF LOCAL RESOLVE!
Now we move forward to the next stage of the campaign, and to a series of meetings with each and every one of the elected Wicklow County Councillors up and down the county. It is, after all, they who will ultimately decide the fate of this wonderful mountain environment. We will keep you posted throughout the coming weeks as these meetings take place.
Very best wishes for now.

1n 2016 we were most upset to hear of Wicklow County Council’s proposal to build a major new roadway across the slopes of the Little Sugarloaf Mountain, linking the existing “Woodies” roundabout on the Southern Cross Road, directly to the eastern roundabout at Kilmacanogue village. Following an intensive local campaign, 1250 seperate objections were lodged with Wicklow County Council, all of them greatly upset at the Council's insensitive proposal.
NOW, HOWEVER, WICKLOW COUNTY COUNCIL HAVE PUBLISHED THEIR DRAFT LOCAL AREA PLAN FOR BRAY AND KILMACANOGUE, AND THE ROADWAY IS BACK WITH A BANG !
THEY NOW PROPOSE TO BUILD THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE ROADWAY, FROM THE ROUNDABOUT AT KILMACANOGUE BACK TO THE BOUNDARY WALL OF BRENNANSTOWN RIDING STABLES AND EQUESTRIAN CENTRE. THEY ALSO PROPOSE TO REZONE THE LOWER SLOPES OF THE LITTLE SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN FOR COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL USAGE TO PAY FOR THE ROADWAY.
THIS POINTLESS PROPOSAL WILL DESECRATE THE MOUNTAINSIDE, AND DESTROY A UNIQUE AND MUCH-LOVED UPLANDS HABITAT.
We believe that this is the thin edge of the wedge, and that it is the Council's intention to implement their pointless roadway over the course oif two seperate development plans. Ultimately their intention is to open development lands and to remove the Green Belt which seperates Kilmacanogue from Bray. We believe that this proposal will eat substantially into the lower slopes of the Little Sugarloaf Mountain, and that it will impact greatly on the visual and the environmental balance of the entire Kilmacanogue valley. It will ultimately cause the closure of Brennanstown Riding School and Equestrian Centre, too, a much valued amenity across much of South Dublin!
We believe that it is the duty of our Local Authorities to protect our environment, and particularly so where it is both beautiful and unspoiled. We believe that, in proposing this unnecessary roadway, Wicklow County Council is failing in that duty.

Dear Maggie ... It would be unfair to place the source of this proposal with any given political party at this stage. It is the Forward Planning Section of Wicklow County Council that has proposed including it in the Development Plan, and not the councillors. It remains to be seen if any of the councillors back-it and, of course, if enough of the councillors back-it to cause it to be formally adopted. If it is adopted, it becomes the policy of Wicklow County Council to build it, either immediately, or at some time in the future. Given that the NRA (now TII) have already produced large-scale drawings of the scheme, it is likely that it would be built very very shortly indeed! We hope that the 1,137 heart-felt submissions lodged with Wicklow County Council last week will be enough to make them re-think the proposal, and remove it entirely from the Development Plan. If, however, they continue to push this daft idea, we will progress to meeting with each and every one of the county councillors. Regards. F

Dear Lesleyann .... apologies for not coming back to you sooner. Yes .... we are firmly opposed to tearing this mountain apart for some half baked traffic alleviation scheme. You can find lots more information on our web site WWW.THISROADISPOINTLESS.COM. We launched the site last Friday 4th Nov, and have been inundated with support. In those short days we have recieved 1137 seperate petitions to Wicklow County Council, and they have been printed, packed in seperate envelopes, and lodged with WCC in line with todays Stage1 LAP submission deadline. We now proceed into Stage 2 of the campaign which will be centred on meeting with Local Councillors, etc ... In the interim, the appeals are continuing to flood into us at an extraordinary rate. Again you will find lots more information on the website WWW.THISROADISPOINTLESS.COM. Regards.
