So why is it so important to train our puppy who just arrived home?
Hey eveybody, how are you?
Lately i was facing few questions and hesitations about what stands behind of the idea of rushing to train our puppy, and do it as soon as he gets home.
So, no... the idea is not for teaching the dog how to sit or lay down Of course, it's part of it, but it is a small piece of a much bigger picture.
So why puppy trainig is so important?
Build and strengthen you bond with you new puppy
****************************************************************
This is the basic fundamental of each and every training, wether you train your dog for odebdience, tricks, or actually anything, any basic relationship.
It's so important to know what we can do, or allowed to do, or even more important, what we cannot do or disallowed to do with or to our puppy.
Teaching our dogs basic skills, socialization and langugae
*************************************************************************
As we know Hebrew, English or any other language, so our dogs need to know some kind of language, and of course need to learn its surrounding.
The puppy needs to learn how to interact with its environment, know it, know what humans are, what dogs are, knowing sounds, weird sights, and the list is far from ending.
In addition, the puppy must learn the proper doggie body language, otherwise how can he know how to invite for a play, or maybe how to signal some calming signals to tell other dogs that he/she is not comfortable at the moment.
In addition, the puppy must acquire some basic skills as general disciplin, impulse control, and more...
Build a confident dog
**************************
Take the two sections above, mix them together, and there you go... you'r having a dog who knows what he want from himself, knows what he want from you, a great recipe for a balance dog.
A dog who is balanca and confident knows how to be indpendent and knows how to occupy himself even without out presence, control its impulse and acclimate to changes more quickly.
Home skills
**************
Sometimes we tend to think that it's obvious that are dog will naturally know how to behave when he is indoor. Why actually?
We need to show him that the new plant is not his toilets, or the new running Nike shoes are not his new chewing toys and the pizza that we ordered is not for him. Don't take things as granted, your puppy must learn these things!
Avoide behavior problems in the future
*************************************************
So far we have named what the puppy will gain from the training. If you'll gather all, you will get a stable dog that the chance for developing behavioral problems is low.
If you can avoid guard resourcing, fear, aggression, biting, and more..., so why not?
Reduce the chance of giving the dog back to the shelter
***********************************************************************
If you'll have a dog which is fun, polite, stable and educated, so why would you even think of putting him back in the shelter?
Unfortunately there are people who waited with training their dogs and have already got to the point of no return.
So yeah... don't wait to much, puppy training/education is an essential phase while the puppy is getting developed.
A well trained and eductared dog is recipe for quaility and quiet life-style. This is why you adopted a dog anyway, didn't you?
