The Sundarban Wild Animal Park (S.W.A.P)is the only mangrove zoo present in West Bengal. The main three species of Sundarban delteic region viz.
(1)

The earliest proposal for creation of S.W.A.P at Jharkhali as satellite facility of zoological garden, Alipore was submitted in the year 2009-10 for setting up a tiger rescue center. It is well known to us as SWAP, covering 38.75 ha of land at Lot no.26, Jharkhali, intends to complement the national effort in conservation of wildlife through breeding of endangered species of sundarban & to develo

p empathy among visitors for wild animals. The Saltwater Crocodile, The Spotted Deer, and The majestic Royal Bengal Tiger are being displayed to visitors. The presence of Royal Bengal Tiger of Sundarban glorify the park and attract many visitors from different parts of India & abroad. The lesser cats (Fishing cat, Jungle cat), Turtles, endemic birds of sundarban shall be displayed in large enclosures by following all norms and conditions applied by CZA. And conservation breeding programme for smooth coated otter, Monitor lizard shall be imposed. The park is highly enrich with faunal elements such as fishing cat, jungle cat, wild boar, different types of reptiles such as water monitor lizard, king cobra, monocled cobra, common krait, pit viper etc. Avian diversity is also high with different terrrestial & aquatic birds. Many migratory birds also take shelter in this park in winter season. Insect diversity is also high with different orders of insect, building up of a Butterfly Garden is proposed considering high no. of endemic Lepidopteran diversity. Sundarban Wild Animal Park is well connected with raod as well as revirine system of Sundarban, nearest railway station is Caning. one can easily visit S.A.W.P and spend a good memory into the lap of the nature.

On 22 nd August, 2024 one day training programme on "Ex-situ management of the Royal Bengal Tiger"was organized by Sundarban Wild Animal Park which was inaugurated by respected Ex-Officio Director Madam SWAP, Jharkhali.
In the first half theoretical sessions on " Enclosure designing and Enrichment planning for Royal Bengal Tiger, stress management, hand rearing, record keeping & comprehensive health management of Royal Bengal Tiger" topics were discussed by Ms.Ish*ta Chongder, Zoo Biologist, WBZA, Mr.Soham Mitra, Research Assistant, SWAP, and Dr.Ashutosh Kumar Biswas, Veterinary Officer, SWAP respectively.
In the second half, a hands-on training programme was organized on "Comprehensive Health Management of Royal Bengal Tiger".
All together 50 staffs from Zoological Garden, Alipore, Bardhaman Zoological Park, Garchumuk Zoological Park, Jungle Mahal Zoological Park, Harinalaya Deer Park & Sundarban Wild Animal Park were wholeheartedly took park in this One day training programme.

Today on 22 nd May, 2024 a Zoonotic Disease Camp is organized by Sundarban Wild Animal Park with the guidance of Range Officer, Matla Range and Ex-Officio Zoo Manager, SWAP, Jharkhali, and Zoo Supervisor, where Zoo Veterinary Officer gives an awareness speech and valuable lecture on Zoonotic Disease and it's prevention to the Zoo Staffs of Sundarban Wild Animal Park and Forest Staffs of Matla Range.
In the second half, a training programme is also organized for managing Natural Disaster where a theoretical session is carried out by Zoo biologist and Range Officer, Matla where the necessary action during Fire Control, Cyclonic Situation, Flood Control, Law and order breakdown, Human injury and First-aid etc. are discussed. A practical session on Mock drill for Fire Control is also organized.
All together 40 staffs from SWAP and Matla Range wholeheartedly take part in these programmes.

Word wildlife week has been successfully organized by Sundarban Wild Animal Park under 24 Parganas South Forest Division on 4 th October, 2023. Different events have been organized which are mentioned below-
1) A mass awareness campaign on conservation of wildlife and its habitat to aware local communities , students of different age groups, forest staffs etc.
2) A sit & draw competition on wildlife where around 80 students of Herobhanga Vidyasagar Vidyamandir have taken part.
3) Plantation of different species of plants by Respected DFO sir & ADFO sir, Zoo & Forest staffs, School students and teachers.
4) Zoo visit & a colourful rally where Respected DFO sir & Ex-officio Director SWAP, Sri Milan Kanti Mondal shared his experience on the needs of wildlife conservation & took pledge to conserve wildlife with different age group of students.
5) Garbage and plastic cleaning mission to celebrate Swachhata Hi Seva with school students.
6) A training programme on Human-Wildlife Conflict has been also organized for front-line forest staffs of 24 Parganas (South) Forest Division by Wildlife Trust of India.
Thanks a lot to all participants for their valuable participation to successfully run the programme.

Sundarban Wild Animal Park organized a cleanliness programme at the Zoo premises and surrounding area to mark the massive cleanliness drive- "Swachhata Hi Seva" on 1st Oct, 2023.
From today Sundarban Wild Animal Park, Jharkhali, has been declared as a 'Single Use Plastic Free Zone '.

Today i.e. on 29 th July Sundarban Wild Animal Park has successfully organized The Global Tiger Day, 2023 at Jharkhali. Major events are sequentially described below
1) Inauguration of Tablue of International Tiger Day by respected DFO Sir
2) Playing of Tiger Anthem as the opening theme of today's ceremony.
3)DFO 24 Parganas (South) Division & Ex-Officio Director sir took oath with all to conserve Royal Bengal Tiger & it's habitat & gave his short but engrossing speech on Swamp Tiger.
4) Felicitation of Quick Response Team & other imminent guests.
5) Drama & innovative puppet show on Sundarban forest & it's daily livelihood.
6) Our three tigers - Sohan, Sohini, Sundar are offered Mutton (5 kg each) as special treat on this day.
We want to give special thanks to SBI for taking first ever adoption for SWAP. SBI General Manager has announced to share Rs.6 lakhs for maintenance of our three tigers..
Special thanks to WTI for donating a Drone for continuous surveillance for better wildlife monitoring.

On the auspicious occasion of World Crocodile Day, 17 th June Sundarban Wild Animal Park had organized a training cm workshop program on "Identification, husbandry, safe handling of Saltwater Crocodile at Bhagabatpur." WBZA H.Q, zoo staffs of Alipore Zoological Garden, Garchumuk Mini Zoo, Harinalaya Deer Park, Bardhaman zoo and frontline rescue staffs of North 24 Pargana, Nadia-Mushirbad had wholeheartedly participated in this program to make it successful. The most attractive thing was that our DFO sir had released 5 crocodiles to the wild infront of participants.
