The earliest proposal for creation of S.W.A.P at Jharkhali as satellite facility of zoological garden, Alipore was submitted in the year 2009-10 for setting up a tiger rescue center. It is well known to us as SWAP, covering 38.75 ha of land at Lot no.26, Jharkhali, intends to complement the national effort in conservation of wildlife through breeding of endangered species of sundarban & to develo
p empathy among visitors for wild animals. The Saltwater Crocodile, The Spotted Deer, and The majestic Royal Bengal Tiger are being displayed to visitors. The presence of Royal Bengal Tiger of Sundarban glorify the park and attract many visitors from different parts of India & abroad. The lesser cats (Fishing cat, Jungle cat), Turtles, endemic birds of sundarban shall be displayed in large enclosures by following all norms and conditions applied by CZA. And conservation breeding programme for smooth coated otter, Monitor lizard shall be imposed. The park is highly enrich with faunal elements such as fishing cat, jungle cat, wild boar, different types of reptiles such as water monitor lizard, king cobra, monocled cobra, common krait, pit viper etc. Avian diversity is also high with different terrrestial & aquatic birds. Many migratory birds also take shelter in this park in winter season. Insect diversity is also high with different orders of insect, building up of a Butterfly Garden is proposed considering high no. of endemic Lepidopteran diversity. Sundarban Wild Animal Park is well connected with raod as well as revirine system of Sundarban, nearest railway station is Caning. one can easily visit S.A.W.P and spend a good memory into the lap of the nature.
