The Hurricane Vets Charitable Trust, Chennai (HVCT), plays a pivotal role in empowering livestock keepers through its Veterinary Health Camps. These camps serve as a connecting point in advancing animal welfare, safeguarding public health, sustaining livelihoods, educating communities, fostering cooperation, and responding effectively to emergencies both in rural or urban areas.
A Veterinary Health Camp was conducted on April 27th, 2024, in the village of Nedungal, Tirutani, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu, commemorating World Veterinary Day 2024. Beyond animal care, it's underscored that the veterinary profession extends its impact to safeguard and enhance the well-being of people and their communities. This emphasizes the broader application of veterinary science, encompassing not just animal health and welfare but also contributing to the physical, mental, and social well-being of humans.
The Veterinary Health Camp was organized in association with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu, National Animal Disease Epidemiology Network (NADEN) and National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI) which is a premier national institute catering to the needs of surveillance and monitoring of livestock diseases and animal health information in the country. The role of NIVEDI is significant in developing disease models, risk analysis, animal disease forecasting & forewarning.
In the Veterinary camp, 233 white cattle,146 goats, 167 sheep, 243 birds and 7 dogs totaling 796 animals were examined and treated. The animals underwent treatment for various health concerns, preventive measures like deworming and vaccination.
