At ROA Shelter we are currently taking care of around 50+ old age and differently abled animals that require extra attention and special care. We are committed to giving the animals here the best care and the healthiest life they can lead. We have spacious enclosures to give enough space for our dogs, cats and pigs to live comfortably. We have built a specific nutritional meal plan based on every dog’s age, weight and other medical conditions. ROA Shelter is also home to many dogs with birth deformity and they are boarded at a separate rehabilitation space within our shelter. The dogs are walked twice a day to ensure they’re healthy and active. Our team of caretakers and volunteers give the utmost attention to every single detail while taking care of our animals.
ROA Shelter is also an open space that thrives amidst a lot of greenery and our animals can be found happily playing around during their walks! Our shelter is open from 10am to 5pm and we are most happy to show around our shelter during these times for visitors. We are committed to the cause of ensuring our animals get a lot of care, attention and love, and we request you to visit the shelter.
Look at MOWGLI, the newest member of ROA family is happily at home with us. It was reported from Injambakkam that this male labrador was abandoned and we rescued him. He is not reserved any more!
Wagging his tail all the time is MOWGLI, the newest member of ROA family. Mercilessly abandoned by his owners, he trusted us and allowed us to pick him up. Look at him he is so happy and relaxed.
Regular exercise is a must for the dogs to keep them active and healthy. Here you can see them enjoying their daily walks!

This poor buffalo which was almost drowning in the sewage water was skillfully pulled out using an out of the box technique. It walked away on its own after initial moments of shock and disbelief!

An avid animal lover Rahul had brought this mouth- watering New Year cake from Chennai. Tasty cake was served to all our animals today.
A small Pooja was done to Lord Ganesha and Lord Bhairava at the shelter today. While thanking them on this New Year's Day for having helped us to build this shelter in 2022, we prayed that they continue to shower their blessings in the coming years too.
Our animals relished the tasty New Year cake and wanted more and more!

Cyclone Mandous has caused considerable damage to our shelter. We are limping back to normal routine slowly.
Open to nature on all sides, some roof sheets as well as the tarpaulin sheets we had put on top last month have been blown away because of the severe winds. We have lost many banana trees too. No electricity since two days and it may take a few days to be restored. Luckily we had stored sufficient water in the tanks to last for a day or two.
The good part is our dogs are all doing well, warm food is being served as usual, medications are going on and the walking routine for the is resumed.

Vagaries of weather affect both humans and animals alike!
We aren't the only one to be affected by the ways of the weather. Harsh winds, rains, storms or summer heat takes a huge toll on the animals too.
In the shelters though we are there all night to comfort them they miss their families who had abandoned them. Neither they have the ability to understand the reason behind the abandonment nor can we make them understand.
For heaven's sake, never ever discard your pets like a throw-away object just because they are disabled or fall sick or become old or develop age-related ailments.
Please keep your gates and doors open, especially now, for the community dogs to take a brief shelter.
Feed them with whatever you have like biscuits or bread and spread a few old sheets or newspapers for them to rest till the weather changes for the better.
Remember, a tiny space in your heart for these voiceless beings is really worth a million!

Cyclone Mandous effect on our shelter.
Winds are coming in really hard but the banana plants are breaking the severity of the winds. Still we are taking care to secure our animals and keep a close watch till the cyclone crosses coast.

ROA Shelter rescues!
So young, so full of life, so much hope in his eyes, this little darling was found abandoned on OMR and has been rescued by us. He will require intense treatment for his skin condition. We are confident this is fully curable with time. He will be ready for adoption post his full recovery.
