Neo is back at Barkville after 7 years of his adoption. He got adopted as a puppy. His adoptive family is fighting with health issues. But that doesn’t mean that Neo and his friends should stop receiving the care they deserve. We’re feeling relieved that he has returned and that we can help him. We had been trying to find ways to get him help for a year or more and now that he is with us, it feels like a big release. He is scheduled for blood tests and scans. More on his health later.

Happy New Year. While we all wish to leave the baggage of last years behind us, as a shelter, we do tend to still carry a lot of burdens with us. We are under a massive debt of food and medical bills pending to the tune of 15+ lakh. We have paid off some of our long standing dues thanks to few of our very generous, long time supports but its unfair to keep the burden on a few when everyone can lend a hand. We have today 90 dogs. If we all can share this appeal and just ask people to sponsor 1(or multiple) dog for 5K per dog per month, We can stop this from worsening further and give us the breather we so desperately need to provide efficient care to the animals we have rescued.

You foster, you adopt, you send them food, you pay the electricity bills, you pay their medical bills, you bring them treats, you visit them often, you share their stories, you follow our page, you fight for your community dogs, you are so important to us!!

This girl, the most beautiful, the sweetest, an angel.. I’m short of adjectives 🥺

She had to be taken to the university setup to be seen by the best of the veterinary doctor and facility. She traveled like a pro and made us so so proud by exhibiting the best of the behavior 🥰

She is literally Swati’s puppy, fiercely loyal just in a few years of goodness we’ve been able to offer to her 🥺

How can anyone hurt these beautiful, sensitive, most loving souls!!!

Update: Thank you, Chitra Unnithan for paying off the bill. It means a lot 🙏🏽

Our 11-year-old mama cow is in despair after she fell due to the age and weakness. Thankfully no fractures. But her vet wants us to arrange her a stand to help her get up again.

The stand is 25k and it will enable us to handle to emergencies like this with our large animals.

Please help us be equipped by sponsoring this stand. This mother cow was discarded with her male calf a few years ago because she was old and not good enough to make more female calves or milk.

If you’re in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar and if you’re letting your pet dog walk off leash or unattended and if that dog is reported to us, we will treat him as a stray (ownerless) dog and sterilize (khasikaran) him immediately.

Any dog who is not accompanied by their owner on their walk is technically a stray dog. We cannot let you let him mate with a stray female dog and add on to stray dogs’ population. You’ll not take those stray puppies’ responsibility.

We also encourage all the animal shelters to sterilize any pet dog who is found unattended/straying. You may then return him to the owner but only after you’ve ensured that the dog will not be a part of the -stray dog population- problem.

The transfer of the dogs from VSPCA to Barkville Foundation has completed. The dogs are settling in well and are also getting along nicely with some of our resident desis. They are currently being vetted and treated accordingly. They have a long road ahead of them but we’re hopeful for them. In the meantime, if anyone wishes to claim or adopt these dogs(previous parent or new parent), you’re very welcome to visit us and take them home with your adoption paperwork. Also, please do not hoard the dogs if you do not have your own place to keep them and take their responsibility till the end. Hope we all learn from this experience and move on to achieve better things in life 🙏🏽

A new day, a new story yet same old same old. This boy was reported dumped injured and maggoted in Gandhinagar. When we were first informed, they never sent us the location. However after much inquiry finally got the location to go save him. He got into the car willingly, however all the straying around and injuries have taken a toll on him. We took him directly to vet, for anti rabies and we wanted to do a blood test too but he just didn't allow. Keeping the stress levels low is an important part of rescue, as it can bring further complications. He pooped this morning, and all it seems to have was polybags. Thankfully, he has started to eat.
