I did not give birth to become a mother.

But, i have wiped bums. Cleaned mess. Bathed, changed and dressed my babies up.

I’ve had sleepless nights rocking them to sleep. Carried them in my arms when the road was too hot for them to walk. Played with them the games i find silly. Communicated with them without using words.

I’ve screamed after stepping on a toy that was left on the floor. Ran to the doctor’s in the middle of the night. Taught them new things. Took them to playdates. Encouraged them to make friends.

My children walk on all 4, a forever toddler. They would never call me Mom even if they wanted to. Nor will they ever grow up to be independent. And i’ll be happily taking care of them without expecting anything in return.
Isn’t that what motherhood stands for? Unconditional love.

We are not related by blood but they mean the world to me.
