Buddy, the German Shepherd, was found lying immobile on the street near Rajagiri hospital by a kind informer, Sanoop. He had matted fur, an emaciated body and was unable to even stand.
Sanoop took the dog home and bathed him. It seemed he was not just famished, but extremely thirsty as well. After giving him water which he gratefully lapped up, he seemed to want to stand but his hind legs were extremely shaky. Maybe it was lack of food that was the cause, thought Sanoop. But even after eating food, Buddy's attempts to stand were very wobbly. And then Sanoop saw poor Buddy's body was infested with maggots under his tail where there was a wound.
After Googling for info on what to do for maggots, Sanoop called our rescuer Achuthan. We directed Sanoop to take Buddy to Angamaly AMC in an auto. There, Buddy was diagnosed with multiple issues to do with old age, apart from the maggots that had heavily infected his bloodstream.
Buddy most definitely had had a home. But those heartless folks most likely simply abandoned the poor pooch after he started having medical issues due to old age. Imagine being dumped on the road to fend for yourself by your own family. It happens to SO many pets across the globe.
Please. DO NOT adopt pets if you only want the fun parts. Being a pet parent is not very different from parenting a human child. You don't dump your kids when they fall sick, do you?
The sheer agony, rejection and suffering that poor Buddy went through must have been absolutely heartbreaking for him - physically and emotionally. Buddy was cleaned up completely and treated at AMC Angamaly. He was finally free of those maggots eating into him. And then a day or two later, he broke free of this realm too.
We are SO glad that we were able to bring him at least some relief during his last few days. Thank you Sanoop for rescuing Buddy from an even more horrible end. 🙏 And we are so sorry dear Buddy that your human parents turned out to be anything but your buddie
