Victorious Victoria beat the trauma of her heartless human who abandoned her and left for Canada. With the love and care from her amazing foster mom, she has learnt to trust & love humans again.
We haven't had any solid leads for her yet. She's been at her fosters' home for 3 months now. She really deserves to go home so that she doesn't feel displaced and abandoned yet again.

PARACETAMOL toxicity in CATS
Paracetamol - generic name Acetaminophen is a common over the counter medicines used to treat pain and fever in HUMAN BEINGS.
Unfortunately, cat owners attempt to treat their cats for pain without first consulting with a veterinarian.
Cats have a genetic deficiency in a metabolic pathway in the liver that breaks down medications, called the 'glucuronide conjugation pathway'.
Signs of toxicity from acetaminophen may develop within 1โ4 hours of ingestion.
1. depression
2. rapid breathing.
3. abdominal pain and nausea, causing drooling.
4. Kidney damage
5. Neurological issues
7. Liver necrosis
8. Gums and mucous membrane may develop a bluish discoloration.
This is called 'cyanosis' and is the result of a molecule called 'methemoglobin' that interrupts the ability of the red blood cell to carry oxygen to the tissues of the body.
9. fluid buildup in the face, paws, and forelimbs and become swollen .
10. The urine may become dark or even chocolate-colored from the presence of blood or methemoglobin.
"Occasionally, the first sign of
PARACETAMOL toxicity in cats is DEATH."
Occasionally, the first sign of acetaminophen toxicity is death.
Death as a result of methemoglobinemia occurs 18โ36 hours after ingestion.

Recently , our team members were contacted by cat owners regarding cases where Ivermectin had been prescribed for kittens . One kitten was about 2 months old and the second kitten was 4 months old .
It was given to the 2 month old kitten for hair loss . Now the reasons for hair loss can be multiple
1. Mange/scabies
2. Fungal dermatitis /ringworm
3. Allergic dermatitis to fleas
4. Ectoparasites
5. Food allergy
6. Hormonal imbalance like thyroid issues
7. Psychological /stress
While cats tolerate ivermectin pretty well and is also approved by FDA , the dose is very minute compared to that of dogs . Dose in cats is measured in micrograms PER KG and not milligrams . So even a tiny amount of miscalculation in dose can result in severe toxicity to the kittens.
It can result in neurological problems like weakness , blindness , difficulty in walking, seizure, tremor and even coma .
Treatment for the toxicity is symptomatic and vet can help . Takes about 3-6 days for the toxins to flush out of the system .
There are safer medicine to treat hair loss in cats. First , is to catch the diagnosis
1. Always insists on skin scraping test to look for fungal spores or even wood'slamp to detect ringworm.
2. Kittens usually do not require oral or systemic medications to treat for hair loss .
3. If any doubt ,seek second or third opinions of vet.
NB: we are not including the doses of the medicines in the post to prevent the owners from self medicating their cats/kittens
