Regular blood testing is one of the most important ways to keep track of your pet’s overall physical well-being. Getting tested at routine intervals can allow you to see the way their body changes over time and empower you to make informed decisions about their health.

It’s a common issue all pet parents face including me .But the real reason dogs (and some cats) drag their backside across the floor (or your brand new carpet) might surprise you…
Here’s what it is and how to help…

Worms almost always get the blame for this one. But in this case, they’re almost certainly innocent. That’s because the cause of that bum dragging (or scooting as we call it when we’re being professional) are actually two rather ominously named objects. The a**l glands!

Did you know? When your little mate sniffs another dog’s backside, they’re actually checking out these glands. That’s because they contain a scent unique to your dog.

And while the AG’s might only be small, they’re a huge cause of frustration for the furry family. That’s because these two grape sized glands that sit just inside their bottom often become blocked. And when they become blocked they become intensely itchy and painful.

In fact, if you ever notice your dog or cat suddenly stop in their tracks and turn around to lick ‘that’ area, chances are a blockage in these glands is to blame. So it makes sense that the ultimate itch they can’t scratch is only relieved when they drag their backside across the floor, the concrete or your favourite carpet. Honestly, the rougher the surface the better. They’re looking for relief…and quickly!?

So how can you help?
Well obviously, stopping the old AG’s from blocking in the first place is ideal. These are scent glands that are meant to empty each time they do their business. Yet, if that stool isn’t firm enough to squeeze the glands on the way out, the glands continue to fill up and become itchy.

So ensuring they have enough fibre in their diet is vitally important. The fact there are also prebiotics also helps with that all important stool health…

If the problem keeps on happening, have your vet check your buddy for allergies and even a**l gland infections. Both are treatable with anti-inflammatories and antibiotics but ensuring the glands empty regularly (at least once in a month) is the key to maintain AG health. Otherwise, life can be a drag…

Hello parents, We are always brought up believing cats truly crave . But do they really like it and is it actually bad for them?
Here’s the investigation..

We have been hearing since our childhood, even recalling the childhood cartoons where the poor cat always ends up drinking a bowl of milk and everything is better. But wait. Where is the flatulence and diarrhoea that surely follows the next day?!

Well in amongst the fiction, there is some truth here. The meowers do indeed LOVE milk. But it’s not the sweet taste they’re drawn to as cats don’t really have sweet taste buds on their tongue. Instead, the rich aroma of milk attracts into their sensitive nose sends a clear message to them that this mysterious creamy white liquid is packed full of protein and fat. The two biggest weaknesses for cats.

But what happens when they drink it? Well, aside from the protein and fat, there is a sugar in milk called lactose. And while kittens possess an enzyme called lactase to digest it, like us, they lose this enzyme as they grow up.

So give an adult cat regular cows milk and that lactose sugar goes untouched through their whole digestive system before landing in the colon where all sorts of bacteria exist and ferment the sugar leading to the bloat, flatulence and diarrhoea you’ll hopefully never want to experience.

That’s why cat or kitten milks are both lactose free and often have that lactase enzyme added into the milk to make sure they can actually absorb it rather than unleash hell on their litter tray!

So handled the right way, milk doesn’t have to be a (bad) four letter word for kitties. They just grow out of it and into other kinds of protein. Who’d have thought not everything we have been hearing or seeing in movies or cartoons since our childhood are real.

We are hououred to have among us, such a great guidance for surgeries.. 🙏🏻

are usually caused by an underlying condition that's hard to prevent, but you can decrease your chances of bladder stones by make your pet drink more fluids, especially water, may help prevent bladder stones because fluids dilute the concentration of minerals in your bladder.

Early diagnosis and treatment of any urologic condition may reduce your risk of developing bladder stones. Once you see your pet is struggling to urinate, or blood in urine, even if urine is too smelly always consult your vet.
