Reinforcers are the most important 'tools' in dog training. Reinforcers can be food or activities. It is up to the dog to decide which is their reinforcer choice in a specific situation, we can't force them to choose what is more convenient to us, the trainers/parents. To keep your dog motivated, use high-value rewards, specifically for your dogs. It can be food, sniffing, playing fetch or conditioned reinforcers, like, clicker, praise, even retrieving something. Today was the Graduation Day 🎓 for Chloe, the Golden Retriever, who was born in Sydney and flew from Australia to Bangalore and then Kolkata, India along with his parent 2 years back. She had extreme shyness issue around humans. Now she is blossoming into a confident girl, who overcame her fears towards outdoor situations and strangers. Chloe is getting comfortable day by day around other people apart from her dad. We're excited to see her at home with all her newly learned training. 🎉

to Scotch's journey with us. The cream-coloured 1.5 year old rescued and adopted Pomeranian was an extreme puller pupper and her mom managed it anyhow in Bangalore. But he had to spend a few months with his grandparents in Kalyani and they couldn't figure out how to walk him properly everyday for p*e n' potty.
So we started a rigorous outdoor walking training for him and his grandparents too. He behaved so well after the program ending, such an intelligent boy he was! Then he and his grandpa, both started enjoying evening walkies together for an hour or two (obviously with peanut butter treamtos 🥜)! 🐕

Yesterday we had an excellent Sunday session at Animel Planet, New Town. Brinda from The Telegraph, came down to cover our Sunday classes and we couldn't be any more excited. It is really heartening to see that our efforts are getting noticed. We had a very in-depth interview with her and we covered several key topics related to canine training. Cognizant Canine Citizens focuses on raising awareness regarding dog parenting and strengthening the bond between dogs and their humans. Keep an eye out for the article on the Telegraph. Yesterday Team CCC visited Buzzo and Jumbo's home. Initially, their parent's concern was Buzzo, the Lhasa Apso's aggression towards his sibling Jumbo, the Shih Tzu. But we identified several other problems like lack of exercise and mental stimulation. Buzzo is extremely shy and won't let anyone touch or handle him and brush his coat which sometimes included his family members as well. Buzzo's parent despite being a dog lover, never tried training her dogs which has led to Buzzo developing behavioural issues. We're starting with the basics. There's a lot of work to be done and areas to cover. Training Buzzo will require a little bit of hard work and lots of patience, but we're sure that once their training starts in full swing we'll start seeing positive results.

Everyday we get phone calls from people asking for quick fixes for their dog's behavioral issues within a 7-day program. But please do understand that dog training is a lifelong process of relationship building, where consistent responses are essential. Please remember that the daily repetitive training & behavior modification begins at home, after the Meet & Greet or follow-up sessions with us is over. 🐶

Meet Mowgli, a 13 months old Indie kid with severe aggression and biting issues. His structured training (with the muzzle on), including basic obedience for increasing his attention span and mental + physical stimulation, desensitization with almost everything, training walks as a part of confidence building, exercise, and obedience training is going on and we are beginning to see the results. Also his crate conditioning has started. He's learning how to solve the puzzle games, which is a great way to stimulate him mentally. It'll help him burn his excess energy. He still has a long way to go and CCC will be there for him every step of the way.

The Youngest & Cutest Student in Town !
This 2.5 months old pupster Shiro, the German Spitz made us already proud during his first foundational sessions with us. Such a brilliant boy he is! His family is completely involved in the training procedure, which is the most important thing in the process of making a good citizen canine.
There will be some learning curves at home, mainly with his aged grandparents, but we hope they will learn as a team.

Tricks are just brilliant for building communication. It's not about the trick, which is really valuable, but teaching things like "rollover" or "play dead" is that you and your dog understand each other at a completely new and deeper level. Tricks are not only for fun.

Milo is a happy and well-mannered Pug. He grew up in a house with a pretty big backyard. But this 7-year-old's family moved into their new house a couple of months back, which is on a busy main road and they desperately need Milo to learn door etiquettes. So, we're working on some foundational door protocols to wait patiently by the door and only to exit on command to help set him up for success. We're happy to say that he's doing well and is such a quick learner!

Training your furkid to become a better canine citizen will take a lot of time, dedication and hard work. There will be times when the progress your kid makes will not be up to your expectations. It is in those times when you'll have to remember how far you've come instead of looking at how far you still have to go. Notice and celebrate small victories during your training. Don't let perfection be the enemy of progress 🐕

Adolescence is the most challenging time for raising a dog. This period typically begins around six months of age and gets over when a dog reaches physical maturity around two to three years old. During this stage, they experience significant hormonal and brain developmental changes that lead to physical and behavioural changes. This is the prime time for bad habits to develop. So management is the key.
🐾 Teenage dogs are very energetic and interactive. Try to channelize their energy towards structured physical and mental stimulation exercises and games, like, scent puzzles, fetch games, trick training and so on.
🐾 Keep up with basic obedience training sessions with a variety of distractions. Impulse control and crate training are also very important things to remember. Keep in mind that they shouldn't be punished for their 'bad manners'. Please be patient, but firm when establishing boundaries, and always reward your little furball for making good decisions.
🐾 It's just a developmental period, it’s not forever! Consistent training and early socialization help the adolescent puppy become a polite, well-adjusted adult dog.

Early socialization vs. Puppy Vaccination

"Critical socialization period" for puppies is a developmental stage, which lasts from approximately 3 to 14 weeks. It's a very important time for them to explore the world. No socialization can lead to different kinds of behavioural issues, like aggression, reactivity, anxiety and many more. But on the other hand, puppies are not fully protected until they've received all the vaccinations. There's always a risk of getting an infectious disease before 16 weeks. So socialize them safely !
➡️Must avoid all sorts of public places for exploring. Do not leash walk your puppy down the street.
➡️Wisely expose them to new sights, smells, sounds, textures, noises, new people, children, other animals, dogs and so on in a controlled setting during this period. Other dogs should be fully vaccinated and healthy overall
➡️Start exposing the pupper gently to the regular household activities for confidence building, while outdoor activities are restricted
➡️Find out the alternative ways to socialize them appropriately. Positive reinforcement is always the key. Take it slow and keep your pup relaxed. Be aware of your pup's stress level during socialization and remove them from the situation accordingly.
So puppy socialization doesn't need to wait until all vaccines have been given. They should go together 🐶
