Update4:

René has shown wonderful improvement in a slow, but
reassuring fashion. She is less skittish of humans and is starting to be more and more responsive, and even recognises her name now! She is currently undergoing physiotherapy for her injuries (unfortunately she has a lumbar injury in addition to her neck area) and is eating very well. We are more grateful than words can convey to our amazing foster who has been giving René the best kind of care humanly possible.

However, we still have a long way to go before René becomes fit enough to be a healthy cat and do cat things.

Here we take the opportunity to make a lovely announcement: Scooby the proud Indie has agreed to collaborate with us for providing even more care and support to René and we are thankful beyond words can even begin to express our gratitude. Between this update and the previous one back on 2️⃣3️⃣/0️⃣3️⃣/2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣, the proud indie and our amazing foster have been working together tirelessly in raising much needed funds for our beautiful René.

The current estimate for René's care is illustrated in the following breakdown:

•Approximate cost of boarding fees+ recovery diet+ meals + other needs for forty-three days: 30x300= 9000/-

•Physiotherapy+ veteranarian fees: 770+770+770+770+600+ (above amount)= 12,680/-

•Blood test+ two xrays: 2,200+ 1,200+ (above total amount)= 16080/-

Please consider opening your kind hearts for sweet René again. It's been a long road and we still have several more days ahead of us. We have been able to come this far because of your generosity and support and for that, we pray you are all blessed a hundred fold 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

URGENT ADOPTION APPEAL

Three kittens rescued near Park Circus, Kolkata are in urgent need of a home. The kittens are living on the road in a very unsafe location prone to accidents and dog attacks.

There are two females and one male, aged at 2 months. They have been dewormed and will be vaccinated in due course. They are extremely friendly and very sociable. Complete goofs when it comes to tiny ball toys and a rolled up sock. They enjoy eating fish of all kinds, and napping on your lap on Sunday afternoons.

Update3:

We have some amazing news😊 René tried to get up on her own, and she's in a different posting now, mostly sitting up!! She is also finally showing interest in food and ate more willingly!! We cannot describe what a feeling it was to see her change and show interest in things that are necessary for her recovery: we're speechless and in awe of her resilience 💜

And that's where you, dear donors come in. Your generous support has helped up tide through some very difficult days with René and even the smallest bit of donation has made an impact on our beautiful kitty. We are humbled and very touched by your prompt response and the kindness you have shown René will ensure the universe doesn't forget any of you. May any hardships you are facing be alleviated and the universe give you back manyfold!!

As said in the previous update, here is a breakdown of the expenses in René's treatment so far:

🔸Total donations received till date: 8931/-
🔸Pickup charge: 500/-
🔸Amount paid for her treatment and boarding till the 24th: in installments of 2000/-, 1900/- and 4000/-
🔸Amount in hand: 531/-

Our current needs:
🔹Her daily charges at Hakuna Matata: approximately 800/- with other miscellaneous charges (daily charge of crate, etc.) We are speaking to different sources to move her to a paid foster once she's got enough to leave Hakuna Matata. We estimate that she'll need to stay there at least another week or so.
🔹Surgery: approximate cost to be intimated to us once she improves more.
🔹Orthopaedic bed: we estimate it to be 800-1500/- We cannot confirm an exact amount yet as we are looking at different places.

Update2:
We finally feel some hope as we receive news that René tried to sit up on her own, and is also showing interest in food.

We tried to feed her when we visited her a few days back, and back then she had shown minimal interest in feeding. We figured she is missing her kittens badly and probably upset. So when we heard that she tried to sit up and not lay listlessly as she has been doing, our hearts lit up with hope!

We take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you, dear donors, who have been helping us to cover her expenses. Some of your generosity came in the nick of time when things were not getting better and it really comforted our souls. May you be blessed a hundred fold!

We have managed to consult experienced people and are continuing to seek word with more trained professionals and we hope to have a bit of good news in the coming days.

We have been able to clear part of the pending bills, the copies of which are attached to this post. We shall post the next update with new bills, current funds in hand, a breakdown of expenditure till date, as well as new pictures and videos of our beautiful René very soon.

Update1 on René:

From now onwards, we, Desi Paws Desi Paws will be providing updates on René. We have enclosed the latest prescriptions/ bills as proof of our expenditure and also a breakdown of the costs. We have also included the links of 2 (two) posts we made in urgency for René in the first few days.

René's prognosis is uncertain and we are feeling scared and unsure of the next steps due to some complications that have arisen. She is showing torticollis (shortening of neck muscles due to contraction of said muscles) and lateral recumbency (she lies on her side and is unable to get up) due to the dislocation in her atlas and axis vertebrae. We need a suitable neck collar and similar materials to help keep the neck area immobilized.

While the surgery is risky, without it we are looking at non-survival. With bated breaths we are planning our next course of action.

Our total donations received: 4431/-
Utilised amount: 2500/-
Remaining amount: 1931/-

Boarding for the next 5 days with IV charges: 5500/-
New medications and neck collar estimated cost: 1500/-
Water bed or orthopaedic bed: cost to be informed to us soon.
Other costs to be intimated by the hospital: 2000- 3000/-

Total need of funds at present: 9000/-

The cost of surgery, post op care and paid foster is being speculated and we shall update on the same matter soon.

Please come forward for this blameless creature and continue to support us. Your kind and generous donations have touched us deeply due to the love and monetary support René has received. Our friends are trying to aid this beautiful tortoiseshell momma cat, christened René, from the consequence of a suspected deliberate cruelty case. She is currently being treated at Hakuna Matata, Tollygunge, Kolkata.

She's got a broken neck and cannot raise her head and just lies down on one side. The vet has stated that she will never stand again!!

We are also trying to locate her 4 week old kittens (estimated) but have been unsuccessful so far.
