Happy Holi!
See Behind the Scenes in 20 minutes of PAWS uncut, 20 min of Pride and Prejudice. Our Prejudice is for Excellence and Transparency. We have nothing to hide, not even our pride.
Many thanks to hundreds of donors, a few members of the Governing Body who contributed heavily for the construction and particularly to our Governing Body member Adv. Ritesh Basu for donating the shelter land worth around ₹40 lacs plus around ₹10 lacs more for paying the debts with the construction contractors, without which nothing like this would have been possible.
Financial update on construction of this new shelter:
1) ₹24 lacs already spent on construction.
2) ₹4-5 lacs debt as outstanding liability of contractor's bills.
3) Another ₹2-3 lacs to be further spent on balance construction work.
PAWS desperately needs support from donors to pay the debts with all contractors and suppliers.
Payments/ Donation to PAWS can be done in 2 ways, described at our website link https://pawsrescue.in/donate/
WhatsApp to:
Lopamudra Basu, Secretary of PAWS at 9830190718 for proper accounting and acknowledgement of donation.

No, we can't cure all cases!
Man proposes, God disposes.
We cured this poor dog to 90% stage and then he died suddenly this month owing to his 14+ yrs age. But we've tried up to his last breath as we always do.
The old chap was lying beside the road after being hit by a vehicle. We had been treating him on the spot for a few days but it was becoming unmanageable. So he was shifted to shelter even before our new building got commissioned and we were very much short of space.

Adoption cm treatment post! Contact PD at 9330372226 to adopt strongly built Indian puppies that look like Labrador.
Name: Moturam
Male Puppy, 3.5 months, 10 kg, admitted on 24/12/23 by PD.
Case: Hit by bike
Injury: Dislocation suspected in right shoulder and impact injury without fracture in rear right leg.
Location: Fortune Township, Barasat.
Mentor: PD
Donation: PD will bear all expenses. No external help requested.
He's a huge puppy living with a family comprising mother, foster father and two sisters, all collectively called as 'Teen Number'. All protected and maintained by PAWS volunteer Prasenjit Dutta at an under construction building opposite to his house. Two females siblings died on the road a week back even as PD has been continuously trying for their adoption. Collectively they used to respond to the name Panch Number.
While PD has been bringing them up as model Indian puppies using quality dog food, trained them to remain inside the building, he's not at all sure when all of them will get killed on the high speed road whenever they become adventurous.
Moturam will recover soon within few days, but the future for him and his sisters remains uncertain. PAWS shelter remains their hope for treatment when they need.

Case: Accident. Superficial injury to head, massive injury to rear right leg that's broken at several places. No injury to spine or other 3 legs.
Donation received: Nothing at all. Appealed to the local shopkeepers, but not sure how much they'll pay. Donation from kings viewers URGENTLY REQUIRED for this case.
Local contact: Md. Taj Mandal, used drum seller beside Sabir Builders
Informer: Bijoya (sister of Late Lakshmi), via Siddhartha Sengupta
Pickup location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/VZ3nmbs7HAaesYiE7
Badu Road, Digberia Tetultala, opposite Sabir Builders.
This poor dog was very fortunate that after lying for one full day beside the road he got transport to shelter because our volunteer Prasenjit Dutta had come to shelter in the afternoon with a Toto to admit another dog. Bijoya was not getting any vehicle through the previous 24 hrs and was treating him as best as she could in a sheltered shed beside the road.
After PD brought him to shelter, treatment has started immediately. He's a huge and strong dog. We're hoping to cure him fully except for his severely damaged leg in which all the bones are broken to small pieces.

4.5 min of education on how to assess a road side trauma case and eliminate the risk of carrying a rabies affected dog to shelter without knowing. And of course there's a one minute miracle at the end that's called PAWS Care!
Case: Dog named Masoom, completely coated with mud and about to fall into a deep drain, having invisible shoulder and spine injury after being hit by a train at possibly slow speed, completely paralysed except for the head and neck, demonstrating biting tendency and causing suspicion of Rabies. It was only after detailed examination that shelter that we reached the conclusion that he must have been hit by a train. That seemed to be the only possibility, because there's no one in the area who could have been him so heavily to cause internal neurological damage.
Please watch the video after reading the narration. In the video, please watch the meticulous examination done to detect or rule out the chances of Rabies as demonstrated by our volunteer Prasenjit Dutta. PD is not wearing gloves because of his personal reasons and because he's extra cautious/ conscious about not touching anything else before washing his hands. But in general, do not ever touch a paralysed dog without gloves unless you're able to see the injury that's known to cause the paralysis.
06/12/23, 5 pm on a rainy day this winter, PD received a call from local area Councillor Marium Mashood Quazi while she was herself out of town. Since the rainy morning this dog was lying 30 m away from rail tracks and exactly opposite to her house near no. 2 Rail Gate at Kazipara, Barasat.
Same day, 530 pm: PD rushed to the shop by closing his business before time. He examined the dog for all signs of rabies that doesn't need description in words. It's demonstrated on video.
For symptoms of Rabies that's unknown to most animal lovers, please refer to https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2073461339617857&id=1490798644550799 AND https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=
We're very much saddened by the state of our long time inmate and 'beggar dog' Bhulu who was admitted way back in April 2020. He's very sick with age and multiple organ related problems that has caused him to stop eating.
See https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2521653021465351&id=1490798644550799 to know why he's called that name.
He's now more than 11 yrs old and PAWS has been his home ever since his mentor dumped his kindness on us and disappeared. He's originally from far away Murshidabad where his mentor used to work and take care of him in his good days. Then, he injured his elbow in some accident and his mentor brought him to his home town Khardah to get him treated by a renowned quack who damaged the joint permanently, causing a raw sore at the joint that required regular dressing without any sign of healing. That made his posture look like a beggar with a hand held out for begging.
So, he's been a victim of love! After months of prolonged treatment his raw wound in the elbow got healed, but his mentor disappeared without paying any further expenses. That's PAWS for you, burdened with so many such permanent inmates who had no place to go.
Help PAWS to support these poor dogs who are forgotten by their mentors.

Admission Date- 07.06.22
Dog Name- Tama
Gender- Male
Colour- grey and white
Admitted by- Tanusree Sharma
Address- Uttarpara, Hooghly.
Problem when admitted -Front right side leg broken, one eye surgically amputated by mentor's doctor because of injury.
Purpose of admission - Treatment and post operative care.
This is not an isolated case of mentor not paying anything after initial deposit of around ₹2,000 and then refusing to take him back to original location after complete recovery. As a result he's at PAWS since June 22 and couldn't be released anywhere.
Help PAWS and animals by taking him home as a fully house trained zero hassles dog who's as friendly as you see here. His interaction with Prasenjit Dutta (PAWS Volunteer, shooting the video) is unimaginable because this was the first ever interaction. See how PD handles him and he has no objections. He's friendly with all dogs in shelter except for Bhaku who's seen growling at him from inside the gate.

Update 18/12/23:
Case: Puppy named Chutkey
Admission Date- 02.12.23
Gender-Male
Colour- Black
Mentor Name- Chanakya Ray, Fortune Township, Barasat.
Rescued by: PAWS member Prasenjit Dutta
Address- Jagadighata Kazipara Market
Problem- Maggot Wound
Purpose-Treatment
Sh. Chanakya Ray of Fortune Township, Barasat had been moved by the pathetic condition of Chutkey lying beside the local fish market and approached PAWS member cm volunteer Prasenjit Dutta who's his fellow resident at the housing. PAWS never misses the chance encourage the sentiments of people who genuinely want to help an animal.
So now we see the update of the earlier paralyzed puppy who had suffered serious injury to the skin that was a huge 4 inch long area where the skin had been peeled off when his sibling got killed under a light vehicle, but he had a narrow escape. As per what's heard from local people, he had fallen on his side when the tire grazed his backbone and pinched off the loose skin on the back, hitting the spine also but not exactly running over it.
PAWS treatment protocol was immediately started upon admission and he was nearly paralyzed for 14 days, unable to stand on 4 legs because of the spinal injury. He was simply able to crawl on his belly. The injury had infected the tissues around his backbone and pus had accumulated. Treatment and strategy of dressing was changed accordingly. He's still a milk fed puppy and extreme nursing care was required for feeding him.
That's PAWS care for you. But he'll be back then on the same street where his mother lives and eats in the fish market. His mother is a huge black female and this puppy will grow into a very large Black Bengal Mastiff if he remains alive. His life could have some guarantee only if he gets adopted in a proud Indian home.
Donation Received: Sh. Chanakya Ray, ₹2,000 during admission.
Total cost till now: ₹1,600 based on average daily cost without diagnostic tests.

Sh. Chanakya Ray of Fortune Township, Barasat had seen this very sick and injured puppy after seeing his sibling lying dead and mother grieving. Being a dog parent, he was moved to do something and came across PAWS member cm volunteer Prasenjit Dutta who's his fellow resident at the housing.
PD postponed his business movement and rushed to the spot and detected the exact location of the puppy. Meanwhile PAWS ambulance was also on the way because local Councillor Marium Mashood Quazi had also been informed. She had called the PAWS ambulance out to the spot. Therefore, rescue was quick, within few hours of his injury and his sibling's death.
After close examination at the shelter, it was apparent that this puppy was involved in the same accident that killed the sibling. The vehicle had partially mounted one rear leg and very fortunately didn't mount his body. But the loose skin of his back had been pinched by the tire and got torn off. As treatment proceeded with this presumption, it was found that injury had infected the tissues around his backbone and pus had accumulated. Treatment and strategy of dressing was changed accordingly.
Nearly a week having already passed, we've hope that he will be fine within another few weeks. But he'll be back then on the same street where his mother lives and eats in the fish market. We're posting this at the dead of night, because that's when it happened! This, @followers is your PAWS.
These two dogs would have been burnt to death if local residents had not called fire service when their apartment caught fire. They would have died of kindness AFTER being saved if one of the locals had not informed PAWS through a volunteer known to them.
Maximum damage was done by KIND people who doused them with water and held ice pack to their heads. After being taken to PAWS shelter, Begum the Doberman has nearly recovered. But Laika the Spitz is critical with low body temperature. The staff are remaining awake beside them although there is full day's work ahead tomorrow.
The owner is an independently practicing paravet of Barasat known to PAWS and she has always refused to provide any type of support to PAWS that required simple volunteering work without involving any cost to her. Not only that, PAWS has sterilized and treated many animals for her clients and didn't get the cost.
In spite of all these grudges, PAWS sent the ambulance and staff to rescue these domestic pets at midnight, simply for the sake of the animals who have done no wrong. They were badly in need of oxygen and first aid, which PAWS has provided at this hour of the night.

Now she has completely recovered and is waiting to go back to her habitat. .
Tota has a problem in his left eye, and also has a maggot wound on his neck...😔
Please pray for tota's quick recovery 🙏
