The #150thEstablishmentDay of #AliporeZoo was celebrated on 24.09.2024. The event was graced by the Hon’ble MIC, UD & MA Department, Janab Firhad Hakim; Hon’ble MoS (IC) Forest, Smt. Birbaha Hansda; Hon’ble MLA & Chairman WBFDCLtd, Sri Tapan Dasgupta; ACS Forests, Sri Manoj Kumar Agarwal; PCCF & HoFF, Sri Niraj Singhal; PCCF Wildlife & CWLW, Sri Debal Roy, and other dignitaries.
Two new gates on Alipore Road and National Library Avenue were inaugurated. Additionally, a renovated heritage building with enclosures for mouse deer, four-horned antelope, and hog deer, along with two new enclosures for Bengal fox and leopard cat, were also unveiled on this occasion.
A statue of #RaiBahadur #RamBrahmaSanyal, the first and longest-serving Superintendent of Alipore Zoo, was unveiled as part of the celebrations.
A 150-year memorabilia book, "Calcutta Zoo Metamorphosed into Kolkata Zoo," was published. It was also announced that various programs marking the zoo's sesquicentenary would be held over the next year.
Prizes for competitions held during Zoo Festival 2024 were distributed by the Hon’ble Forest Minister and senior officials. A special cake-cutting ceremony was held to commemorate the zoo's 150th anniversary.

A program to celebrate #InternationalTigerDay was held on July 29, 2024, from 12:00 noon under the chairmanship of ACS Forests, Sri Manoj Kumar Agarwal. Sri Niraj Singhal, PCCF (HoFF), Sri Debal Roy, PCCF WL & CWLW, Sri Sandip Sundriyal, PCCF General, Dr. Kana Talukder, PCCF RM&D, Dr. V. K. Sood, PCCF & MD, WBFDC, Sri Saurabh Chowdhury, Additional PCCF and Member Secretary of the West Bengal Zoo Authority, and other dignitaries attended the event.
The keynote address on the occasion was delivered by Dr. Pradeep Vyas, Vigilance Commissioner of West Bengal, retired PCCF & CWLW, and renowned tiger specialist.
A sit-and-draw competition was organized for school children, with 112 participants. Additionally, a poster-making competition and an open quiz for PG and UG students from colleges and universities saw the participation of 120 students. Students from the multimedia department of St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, presented two short films on tiger conservation.
In addition to prizes for the top rankers, all participants were given certificates of participation.
The day highlights the importance of protecting tigers and their habitats, given that tigers are an endangered species with dwindling populations due to poaching and habitat loss.
