Hope you all remember Paami....Paami a 12 year old who underwent a large tumour surgery at the thigh region...she was treated and saved from tick fever and then had underwent the surgery .. But because of the location and her movements and hyperactivity , the stitches couldn't stay together and opened up..She almost stayed with us for more than ten days for medical treatment and post surgery .. The owners wanted to euthanize her because they couldn't do dressing or cleaning even though we generally offer free dressing post surgery and we offered them discounted boarding and free charges for wound treatment because we wanted her to live longer even though it was not our mistake.... Spinal stroke also known as fibro cartilaginous embolism occurs when a piece of the disc breaks off, gets lodged in the blood vessel supplying to the spinal cord causing sudden/acute paralysis.... Kukku was admitted under our inpatient care after a scrotal urethrostomy proceedure....One day, his wounds were dressed and was kept back in the cage, when we heard a sudden loud cry and when went and saw it, we saw kukku being paralysed and unable to get up.... It was a really hard time as we were puzzled and we didn't knew what to tell the parents as it was an unfortunate incidence...moment before that he was pacing restlessly in the cage seeing other dogs .. After an initial examination, we concluded it to be a case of Spinal Stroke .. Spinal stroke occurs after a vigorous exercise or running or jumping. Sudden hind leg paralysis with no reflexes, crying mainly due to anxiety are the characteristic signs. Blood test and radiographs will be clear. There is no specific treatment for Spinal Stroke. Physiotherapy, assisted Walking, motivational training and supportive medications are the only treatment... We started with all the above and slowly Kukku started walking and bearing weight on hindlegs...the reflexes on hind legs slowly started developing... Kukku and his parents and we never let the hopes down. The pet parents were so cooperative and understood the situation and acted accordingly...It's always difficult to convince pet parents what had happened but kukku's parents were so understanding... Today Kukku is going back home after a two week long inpatient physiotherapy care to unit with his parents .... PETS CAN GET STROKE...... She was severely anaemic on presentation and we did a blood test to know that she had a parasitic infection Mycoplasmosis.... We started treatment for the same and she was better over the period of days ... But she kept roaming out and was non vaccinated......after a week she was later PRESENTED with vomiting, diarhoea and inappettance and we did a parvo test and it came positive..... Treating for Both Feline Parvo Virus and Mycoplasmosis was a difficult task and we admitted her as inpatient .....
