DEWORMING
Most of the reasearch data on effects of deworming is based on trails and test run on Poultry birds. Such studies have nor been done on Avian species. Hence there is no data on the effects of deworming in Avian birds. So The deworming regime for Avian birds is based on Poultry data. So do not know how dependable it is it to apply the rules on avian birds.
Before deworming the Avian species 4 times a year, We have to take into consideration the envoirment in which poultry birds and avian birds are kept. There is a vast differance in their housing. Poulty birds are exposed to all type of contaminations were as in captive avian species are housed under very hygenic condition.
Some symptoms of worm infection :-
Sharp keelbone
Poor appetite
Ruffled feathers
diarrhoea.
reduced egg production
Rember Infertle eggs and no eggs are two different things. Reason for no eggs or small clutch size is due to Lack of Calcium, poor nutition, Infection and or genetic issue.
So my question is do we need to deworm our birds 4 times a year,
What is the connection between deworming and increase in fertlity.
I never deworm the birds at the farm. Maybe once in a blue moon. But deworm new boughtbirds. In my 48 years of bird keeping I came across worms twice in last 12 years. In both cases new bought Macaws, One passed out worms. The other one died and PM reveiled worms. I always do a PM for big birds for last 12 years, That one was the only case of worm infection. I have not come across any research paper on dewormer effect on fertility.
