Save Jijamata Udyan Zoo

Save Jijamata Udyan Zoo The Jijamata Udyan Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in India and is probably the worst kept. Have you ever heard of a zoo without animals?

(I found a report at http://aapn.org/article/mumbaizoo/ compiled by the members of P.A.W.S. after they visited the zoo in 2006, and it hasn't changed much since then.) The animals here seem to be suffering everyday, some injured, and others living in small and unhygienic enclosures. There was talk about revamping the zoo in 2011; it was supposed to be a Rs 470-crore mega revamp project by the BMC,

but that proposal was soon withdrawn due to the supposed paucity of funds. Time and again we hear about the sad demise of innocent animals at this zoo due to the lack of maintenance provided to them, be it their poor diet or the uninhabitable conditions in which they are kept. I want to be able to, in the future, take my children to a zoo that has real, alive, healthy, happy animals. So I ask you to join me in this initiative to help keep the remnants of this heritage site of Mumbai alive.
