People For Animals (PFA) has been allotted the lease for a 2,000 sq. metre plot in sector 9E, Kalamboli (Navi Mumbai) by The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) in July 2014 to build an animal hospital. PFA, a charitable trust registered on 17th June 1998 (Registration No. 1946 – Delhi) under The Indian Trust Act, 1882, is one of the oldest and largest animal welfare organizations
in India with a network of 26 animal hospitals, 165 units, and 250,000 members/volunteers across the country. At PFA, our mission is to work towards the rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured, and needy animals through various interventions such as full-time comprehensive shelters, ambulance services, sterilization (birth control) programmes, health treatment camps, and emergency disaster rescue missions for animals. Latest (conservative) estimates indicate that Mumbai is home to at least 30,000 registered pets, 100,000 stray dogs, and 200,000 stray cats. But Mumbai currently only has two full-time animal hospitals (in Parel and Thane) that cater to the needs of all sick and injured pets and strays in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai on a daily basis (not to mention injured birds, reptiles, and larger animals). Through this project, we plan to build a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital for small animals, large animals, birds, and reptiles with facilities including ICU, CT Scans, X-Rays, Pathology, Operation Theatres, and full-time Rescue & Ambulance services. With space coming at a large premium in Greater Mumbai, the hospital will be built upwards in order to contain the required units/departments to cater to the variety of species. While the land allotment for the animal hospital in Kalamboli represents a great step towards achieving our mission, significant works lies ahead. Building the hospital from scratch will require considerable funding and resources from likeminded individuals and organizations, for which we envisage separate phases:
i. Drawing up the hospital plan (project consultant, architect, engineer, etc.) With the final development plan in place, physical construction of the hospital will mark Phase 2
iii. Phase 3 will comprise project finalization and implementation
