ning, paddy was the only crop cultivated in fields. Various cash crops like Arecanut, Coconut, Rubber, Pepper, Jackfruit, and Kokum plants were introduced later. Right now, Ballikana's Estate is the world's largest independent known kokum grower. The estate has also been the proud host of the World Symposium organized in Kasargod, Kerala. It has also found its place in the literary pieces penned by renowned writers such as Dr. Shivaram Karanth and Tarasu.
