International Sloth Day is held every year on October 20th. The good news is you don’t have to be in too big of a hurry to celebrate these slow-moving mammals. Instead, hang out and have fun learning about these interesting mammals that are native to South and Central America.

Here are some other interesting facts about sloths:

Sloths are great swimmers and can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes underwater.
Sloths only go to the bathroom once a week and when they go, it’s in the same exact spot.
Algae and fungus grow on a sloth’s course thick fur.
Thanks to extra vertebrae in their spine, sloths can rotate their head 270 degrees in either direction.
Sloths have protruding finger bones that are four-inches long.
Sloths love their alone time and don’t spend a lot of time with other sloths.
On average, sloths live between 20 to 30 years.
A sloth’s stomach has four compartments and it takes up to a month to digest one meal.
Sloths resemble monkeys or bears but their closest relatives are the armadillo and anteater.
Sloths sleep up to 20 hours every day.

*October 17th* is *National Fetch Day*, a chance to get out in the yard, get some exercise, and build some memories.

Fetch may be a game played between a dog and his human, but it has its roots tens of thousands of years ago and the game being played was survival. Dogs' wolf ancestors slowly progressed from hunting competitors into hunting partners leading to their general domestication as pets over the millennia.

This is where fetch comes in. As a hunting partner, dogs played several different roles, one of which being to retrieve food. Eventually, the need to fetch food was replaced by far less survivalistic endeavors (you know, like snuggling). And so the process of fetch became the game of fetch.

It provides much-needed exercise for the dog, and dogs love playing fetch, remember dogs are hunters and they have instincts that they need to satisfy, one of those is to chase.

*This National Fetch Day* take your dog out to the park (in your home is fine too, if you don't mind them knocking over a few things) and play fetch.

Come and join us, as we celebrate *National Fetch Day*.

16/10/2020

We all love cats, don’t we? But what about feral cats? These un-owned domestic cats that you see on the streets, are however, not subject to the same kind of love. Generally, when we talk about stray cats, the tropes involve more back-alley caterwauling and boots being thrown at yowling cats on fences. *Feral Cat Day* is here to remind us of our love of the furry-little devils, and how every stray cat has within them a loving cuddle-able fur ball looking for a forever home.
Feral Cat Day is best celebrated by alerting people the various issues facing stray cats. They live a dangerous and short existence because of the threats from fighting, disease, and often traffic. They can rarely be domesticated, and may carry diseases such as toxoplasmosis or cat scratch fever, both of which affect humans. It is therefore necessary to raise this issue in public, and help to create compassionate communities for house cats and stray cats alike.
So, this October 16 start practicing your alley cat strut and get your feline friends together. This is a day to celebrate cats of all stripes, no matter where they call home. Feral cats have been stigmatized the world over, but thanks to this holiday, we can change how we see these lovable nomads. And since cats can’t talk, it is our responsibility to take care of them if they are caught in nature's misfortune, and born a stray. But, *even if cats could talk, they wouldn’t*.
Join us, the Voice of Voiceless, as we celebrate these beautiful creatures who have been stigmatized all over the world.

*Pets come in all shapes and sizes, but sometimes sizes get a little out of hand.*

On *October 14* we recognize *National Pet Obesity Day* to remind people to keep their pets healthy.

While humans have domesticated animals for hundreds of years, only most recently have we seen such an exponential increase of plus-sized pets. While it’s hard to say no to those precious faces when it comes to food, it’s important to practice discipline for the safety and well-being of our beloved companions. Currently more than half of all domestic dogs and cats are clinically overweight. Not only does it drastically impact their general health, but it also reduces their overall quality of life, often interfering with daily activities and their enjoyment of things like walking and playing ball. It's hard not only for the pet, but it will be hard for you to watch too.

To raise awareness about this issue and promote healthier diets for our pets, many animal lovers get together one day a year to celebrate *Pet Obesity Day*.

This *Pet Obesity Day* identify if your pet needs help, take the survey conducted by *Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP)* every year and take your furry friends out for a walk.

Come and join us, and help us in spreading awareness about this topic on *Pet Obesity Day*.

04/10/2020

World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Animals are our companions, our workers, our eyes and our ears. The human-animal bond has evolved for more than 15,000 years, and continues to do so.✨

Heinrich Zimmermann organized the first World Animal Day on 24 March 1925 at the Sport Palace in Berlin, Germany. It was later on shifted to October 4th and since 1929, we celebrate it on this date. The objective of this day is to educate people about animal welfare and other aspects that involve protecting and nurturing various animal species. In India, many forums organise events to spread awareness. Here are some events that take place -
1. Animal welfare organisations such as Blue Cross conduct events related to the welfare of animals.

2. Events are conducted on school, college and university levels to educate the youth about animal welfare.(read VoV)

3. Print, audio and visual media help in reaching out to all strata of society.

So, join us in the Voice of Voiceless, who, through increased awareness and education, are trying to create a world where animals are always recognised as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare. As we know, love is a four legged word! ❤️

*Treatment Update*

Here are few pictures of treatment of a puppy suffering from severe "Mange".

Mange is a common type of inflammatory skin disease caused by tiny parasitic mites on dogs. Nearly all dogs carry mites in small numbers throughout their lives. Generally, a dog’s immune system is sufficient to keep the number of mites low and prevent noticeable symptoms.

Though Mange is rarely fatal, knowing how to recognize this obnoxious disease early makes treating the dog much easier in the long run.

We will be posting more about common diseases in strays! Stay tuned and do follow us! ✨

Celebrated with Gandhi Jayanti; Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti commemorate the birth of the second prime minister of India. He was born on October 2, 1904, in Mughalsarai.

Known as a mass leader who contributed to the freedom and independence of the country, his slogan Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan resonated with millions of Indians in 1962 when the country fought against China. The slogan shed light on the importance of soldiers and farmers. Lal Bahadur Shastri was considered as the most humble prime minister India has ever had.

Join us to commemorate the jayanti of two great contributors of this beautiful country we are living in!

*Gandhi Jayanti* is marked by prayer services and tributes all over India, including at Gandhi's memorial Raj Ghat in New Delhi where he was cremated. An auspicious Day for the whole country; celebrating the birthday of the person who fought for freedom with *spirits higher than the sky…*

But, being a club for the Voiceless, we ought to bring you some facts about *“Gandhiji Ke Teen Bandar”*

Indian artist Subodh Gupta that portrays three heads in different types of military headgear. The sculptures recall a visual metaphor from India's famous champion of peace, Mahatma Gandhi, of the "Three wise monkeys", representing the principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". This series of sculptures continues Gupta's inspections of dualities in his artwork, including themes of war and peace, public and private, global and local. The phrase *"See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil"* first emerged in Japan in the 17th century and was later adopted worldwide as a message of peace and tolerance due to Mahatma Gandhi's visual metaphor of the three monkeys, with one of them covering his eyes, the second his mouth, and the third his ears. Gupta's sculptures recall Gandhi's vision of these three monkeys as a way to peacefully fight against contemporary colonialism, oppression and injustice.

Stay tuned for more such updates!

National Fire Pup Day is celebrated on 1st Oct. It has a lot of significance... Read on to find more...

It's time to honor their bravery! Animals have a long history of assisting humans in dangerous situations. Fire pups are just as brave and deserve to be recognized just as much as dogs who have worked in wars, during natural disasters, or at crime scenes.

We owe fire pups our love and admiration! Dogs have been bred to be loyal and loving. Fire dogs have the added responsibility of providing that loyalty to people who work in especially dangerous situations.

Fire pups became mascots! As firefighting techniques became more modernized, fire departments began using Dalmatians and other fire pups as resident mascots. In addition to serving as companions, they guarded the firehouse and assisted with community outreach.

Stay tuned to find more such interesting updates!

It's crazy but did you know that the same stigma that surrounds black cats affects black dogs too?

There are still people who mistakenly believe that black dogs are bad omens and bring bad luck. National Black Dog Day is celebrated each year on October 1 to change this.

Black dogs are less likely to be adopted for no other reason than their coloring. This is known as the "black dog syndrome". National Black Dog Day encourages the adoption of a dog in the darker shades.

This National Black Dog Day you can adopt a black dog from a local shelter, or If you own a black dog, take them to the dog park, take plenty of pictures of your pup and show off it's gorgeous ebony fur on social media.

Dogs will always be man's best friend may they come in any colour, size, age or breed. So come and join us, as we celebrate National black dog day.

*World Rabies Day* is an international awareness campaign coordinated by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control, a non-profit organization with headquarters in the United States.

It takes place each year on *September 28*, the *anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur* who, with the collaboration of his colleagues, developed the first efficacious rabies vaccine. Rabies is a deadly virus spread to people from the saliva of infected animals. It is usually transmitted through an animal bite, for example, from stray dogs.

Rabies remains a significant health problem in many countries of the world. Over 99% of all human deaths caused by rabid dog bites happen in the developing world, with 95% of deaths occurring in Africa and Asia. Leaving Antarctica, people and animals on every continent are at risk of contracting this deadly disease. The objectives of *World Rabies Day* include raising global awareness about rabies and how to stop the disease, and educating people in rabies-endemic countries to prevent rabies.

So join us, Voice of Voiceless, in spreading awareness, keeping safe and learning about this deadly disease which affects both, the human and animal – kind alike.

From man's best friend to the President's best "paw-litical" advisor a dog can do it all.

In 1952, a dog changed the course of a presidential election. Today, National Dogs in Politics Day, not only marks this occasion, we also celebrate The First Dog of the United States (FDOTUS).

On September 23, 1952, Richard Nixon gave a speech on television, dubbed as "checkers" speech in front of 60 million people. Nixon denied charges that he had abused campaign contributions. By mentioning his children and the family dog, a black and white cocker spaniel named Checkers, Nixon touched a public nerve making him seem more amiable. Through this speech, Nixon was able to gain the confidence of public, downplay the charges and stay on the Eisenhower ticket as Vice President.

Throughout history in the White House, almost every President has had a dog as part of the First Family. It’s no surprise given the fact dogs can calm pretty much any situation – kind of important for the most powerful position in the world.

Celebrate this National dogs in politics day by dressing up your dogs as your favourite president.

So come and join us, as we celebrate National dogs in politics day! 🐾

Captain Hook...I remember you, you're the world’s most famous crook! ☠️

September 19 has been known as Talk Like a Pirate Day since 1995, but in 2015, cats gained their due respect with the co-celebration of "Meow Like a Pirate" Day. While meowing like a pirate might not make sense at first, this phrase has historical precedence.

Cats were known to bring good luck to the pirates and often rode alongside the pirates in the rough seas. The pirates also believed they could ward off evil spirits and of course, rats. Known to be very independent by nature, cats were the choicest of pets for the pirates as they wouldn’t have to worry too much about them, and could focus on the more important task at hand – plundering other ships! This meow like a pirate day ,play cat dress up, throw a party( *ahem* Corona *ahem*) or heck, adopt a cat!❤️

So join us ,the Voice of Voiceless in this *meowtiny* as we all celebrate National meow like a pirate day.

A Home is not a home without a bird; not in cage, but a regular visitor for food and necessities. 🕊️

This is exactly what Bird lovers have to say. Considering an animal a part of the family is something unique that a human can do! Ever seen animals accept humans as a part of their family, not yet in real life, but yes, we did in Tarzan and also in The Good Dinosaur. The exact same love and bond is shared between humans and Birds; be it birds visiting home or wildlife enthusiasts in forests searching for Bird Beauty! 🐦

National Pet Bird Day encourages people to consider the responsibilities and commitment that come with getting a companion bird. It was the 17th of September 2019, when The Bird Enjoyment & Advantage Koalition (BEAK) was excited enough to announce the celebration of this day. Birds are oftentimes overlooked since many pet owners opt for a larger, four-legged companion; but special are those who consider birds the same and enjoy their days and nights admiring these winged animals! ❤️

So let’s celebrate this beautiful love and bond between the birds and their lovers. Come join us in this! 🐥

❤️
