The State of West Bengal with a variety of forest types is very rich in terms of Wildlife. North Bengal flood plains harbor wild animals like Tiger , Common Leopard , Clouded Leopard , Elephant , Rhino , Himalayan Black Bear , Sloth Bear , Gaur , Sambar , Barking Deer , Spotted Deer , Hog Deer , Wild Boar , Rhesus Monkey , Common Languor ,

different types of small Cats and Civets ,Crocodile , Gharail , Jungle Fowls and a large number of terrestrial and water Birds. Siliguri is second most populous city after Kolkata in West Bengal and is situated at the entrance of North Bengal. People travelling to Darjeeling hills, Sikkim, North East India, Bhutan and Eastern Nepal have to touch through Siliguri. It is well connected with all these along with Kolkata and New Delhi by Rail, Road and Air. North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri has established to showcase the faunal diversity of the North Bengal flood plains to the local people and visitors to the region. The Safari Park has been planned keeping in view the standard and norms formulated by the Central Zoo Authority for its development and maintenance. North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri is spread in an area of 297 hectares. The Park is developed in its natural habitat of Sal & its associated species .The Park shall be having 4 nos. Mixed Herbivore Safari (91 ha), Tiger Safari (20 ha). The visitors shall be taken to these safaris in specially designed vehicles. The lesser cats, fresh water crocodile, gharial and representatives birds of North Bengal shall be displayed in appropriately designed large enclosures. Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal laid the foundation stone of the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri on 17th July, 2014. Section of the Park with Mixed Herbivore Safari, Red Jungle Fowl enclosure and jungle Cat enclosure is ready for opening to the public. Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal dedicated the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri to the nation in January 2016. Total Area – 297 ha

🌍✨ North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri proudly celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with vibrant participation and environmental spirit!

🗓️ Theme: "Ending Plastic Pollution Globally"

🌱 The celebration began with a ceremonial plantation program inside the park, encouraging the importance of afforestation and greenery.
🎙️ This was followed by a motivating keynote address by the Assistant Director, NBWAP, who emphasized the urgency of curbing plastic pollution and called for eco-conscious living.

💚 Students from Salugara High School, Salugara, and Indramaya Primary School, Singijhora, along with several independently participating students, actively took part in the day-long programs and awareness drives.

The lineup of activities included:

🪱 Interactive session on Vermicomposting – educating participants on sustainable waste management.
🎨 Beautification with Old Tyres – showcasing innovative upcycling ideas for garden décor.
♻️ Plastic Reuse Demonstration – promoting alternatives to single-use plastic items.
📝 Slogan Writing & Poster Making Competitions – allowing students to creatively express their thoughts on saving the planet.
📣 Visitor Awareness Campaign – spreading crucial messages to park visitors about responsible plastic use and lifestyle changes.

North Bengal Wild Animals Park Celebrates International Day for Biological Diversity🌎🌿🦋🐝🦚🐅🐢

North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri, proudly observed the International Day for Biological Diversity with enthusiastic participation from the students of Darjeeling Public School, Fulbari and children from "Bibek Vaskar" by Ramakrishna Mission, Narendrapur.

The event commenced with a keynote address by the Assistant Director, NBWAP, followed by an insightful presentation on the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development” delivered by the Education Assistant, NBWAP. The day also featured an engaging Keeper’s Talk, educational activities, and a guided zoo tour, offering students a deeper understanding of biodiversity and its importance.

All participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their enthusiastic involvement, by the Director & AssistantDirector, NBWAP. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by the Zoo Biologist, NBWAP.

Hon’ble Minister Smt. Birbaha Hansda Inaugurates Combo Safari Gate at North Bengal Wild Animals Park:

Today(27.03.2025), Smt. Birbaha Hansda, Hon’ble Minister of State (IC), Department of Forests and Department of SHG & SE, Government of West Bengal, visited North Bengal Wild Animals Park (Bengal Safari), Siliguri. During her visit, she engaged in discussions on staff welfare and the park’s future development, reaffirming the government’s commitment to conservation and sustainable growth.

A significant highlight of the event was the inauguration of the new Combo Safari Gate, marking a step forward in enhancing visitor experience and wildlife management within the park.

Bengal Safari Celebrates International Women’s Day with Dr. Sangita Reddy and Santiniketan NGO

North Bengal Wild Animals Park (Bengal Safari) celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm, honoring the spirit of womanhood and their invaluable contributions to society. The special occasion was graced by Dr. Sangita Reddy, a distinguished personality, along with the children from her NGO, Santiniketan.
