The State of West Bengal with a variety of forest types is very rich in terms of Wildlife. North Bengal flood plains harbor wild animals like Tiger , Common Leopard , Clouded Leopard , Elephant , Rhino , Himalayan Black Bear , Sloth Bear , Gaur , Sambar , Barking Deer , Spotted Deer , Hog Deer , Wild Boar , Rhesus Monkey , Common Languor ,

different types of small Cats and Civets ,Crocodile , Gharail , Jungle Fowls and a large number of terrestrial and water Birds. Siliguri is second most populous city after Kolkata in West Bengal and is situated at the entrance of North Bengal. People travelling to Darjeeling hills, Sikkim, North East India, Bhutan and Eastern Nepal have to touch through Siliguri. It is well connected with all these along with Kolkata and New Delhi by Rail, Road and Air. North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri has established to showcase the faunal diversity of the North Bengal flood plains to the local people and visitors to the region. The Safari Park has been planned keeping in view the standard and norms formulated by the Central Zoo Authority for its development and maintenance. North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri is spread in an area of 297 hectares. The Park is developed in its natural habitat of Sal & its associated species .The Park shall be having 4 nos. Mixed Herbivore Safari (91 ha), Tiger Safari (20 ha). The visitors shall be taken to these safaris in specially designed vehicles. The lesser cats, fresh water crocodile, gharial and representatives birds of North Bengal shall be displayed in appropriately designed large enclosures. Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal laid the foundation stone of the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri on 17th July, 2014. Section of the Park with Mixed Herbivore Safari, Red Jungle Fowl enclosure and jungle Cat enclosure is ready for opening to the public. Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal dedicated the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri to the nation in January 2016. Total Area – 297 ha

World Veterinary Day at Bengal Safari:

On this , held a special event to honor our dedicated , who are instrumental in keeping our animals healthy and thriving. Our Director and Assistant Director personally felicitated our team of veterinarians, recognizing their tireless efforts and profound commitment to animal welfare.
These professionals work behind the scenes to ensure every animal, from the smallest bird to the mighty tiger, receives the best care. Their expertise and compassion make Bengal Safari a safe and nurturing environment for all creatures.

As part of the day's events, we also organized a focused on understanding the behavior of captive tigers in zoo and safari settings. This workshop provided our staff with valuable insights into improving tiger care, safety, and overall well-being. It was a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge and learn from experts in the field.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating World Veterinary Day and to our veterinarians for their dedication to animal health and safety.

This day is a reminder of the importance of supporting our veterinary teams and advocating for the welfare of all animals.

Celebrating Earth Day at Bengal Safari: Plastic vs. Planet Art Competition! 🌿

Over 100 enthusiastic students from various schools gathered to participate in our art competition themed "Plastic vs. Planet." The event was filled with creativity, inspiration, and a shared commitment to a sustainable future. The competition served as a powerful reminder of the role younger generations play in shaping a greener future. It was heartening to witness these young minds advocating for environmental responsibility through their art.
Congratulations to all participants!
Everyone walked away with a sense of accomplishment and the knowledge that they contributed to raising awareness about the environmental challenges our planet faces.

On December 17, 2023, Bengal Safari proudly presented its new attractions to the public. The Western Hoolock Gibbon enclosure, a Pay & Use Toilet block, and E-cycling activities were inaugurated by Smt. Birbaha Hansda, Hon'ble Minister of State, Forests, Govt. of West Bengal. The ceremony was attended by esteemed guests, including Shri Saurabh Chaudhuri, IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Member Secretary, West Bengal Zoo Authority; Shri P.R Pradhan, IFS, General Manager, West Bengal Forest Development Corporation; Shri Bhaskar J.V., IFS, Conservator of Forests & Chief Conservator of Forests Wildlife (North), Shri S. Gajmer, IFS, CCF, Hills, Shri T T Bhutia, IFS, CF, North West Circle, as well as other senior officials from the Directorate of Forests, Govt. Of West Bengal.
