Puppy's joyful transformation--dying from mange, thriving from love.
The young dog was suffering from a terrible condition. Mange parasites embedded beneath the skin had caused all his fur to fall out and a mind-shattering itchiness.
Tanu had perhaps never been touched as a puppy; now, with mange, he was nervous, inward, and almost seemed frightened of himself! He struggled wildly when our rescuer carried him to the ambulance. He would do anything to escape, but if we had accidentally let him go, we might never be able to catch him again. He would die without treatment.
Mange's agitation and the starvation that usually comes with mange would kill him. When we got to the hospital we muzzled him just to be sure he didn't snap, but within moments, it seemed that the sight of the other dogs all around, peaceful and happy, reassured him that he was safe, and his bright terrified eyes began to change...Watch Tanu's transformation--not only a physical change but Tanu's psychological evolution from feral, deliriously hurting, to -- to....well, you'll soon see!

It took 5 months to heal his wounded face…
You might watch this video while partially covering your eyes with your hands, but all the more astonishing good news awaits if you stay til the end. If our medical team didn't have vast experience treating terrible wounds, we may have felt this poor dog was beyond saving. But we know better by now.
A car accident had wounded his face but by a one in a million chance, it missed the veins and arteries that would have caused rapid death. And Jalebi still hadn't used up all his good luck cards, because a kind neighbor immediately called Animal Aid to his rescue. This horrendous accident has a truly grand result. And, as the saying goes, "it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy." Meet Jalebi now!

Dog saved after concussion left her unconscious on jagged rocks.
Laying on the broken, jagged rocks of a construction site, a dying dog underneath thorny brambles was spotted by a cement worker.
He may not have even been from Udaipur but in talking to others on the building site, someone had Animal Aid's emergency rescue number and thank goodness, called us for help. This black beauty would have died without human help in a hurry. She panted continuously and her fixed gaze revealed that she must have a brain injury. We gently carried her to our ambulance. When we arrived at our hospital she was still not fully conscious.
We treated her for pain and inflammation and immediately started her on a hydration drip and gave her oxygen. She had an old fracture of her front paw that we couldn't splint, but luckily, she had no visible wounds and seemed to have no internal bleeding. By the next morning, Misty was beginning to pull through!

This head trauma puppy's tail gave a subtle little thump after days of coma-like sleep.
This dear little street puppy had been hit by a car. He wasn't bleeding and he had no fractures, but he was close to death after being hit in the head by a passing vehicle. His eyes were open, but they saw nothing. We have more experience with head injuries than we wish we had.
We treated him with medicine to reduce the swelling in his brain, and gave IV hydration, nourishment, and on the 3rd day, when he was still mostly unconscious, we gave him oxygen.
When on the third day he recognized the smell of food, we were hopeful that Genie might pull through. But even the effort of moving his tongue thoroughly exhausted little Genie. But watch until the end, because in this fragile little girl, a powerhouse of spirit thrives.
You know how this works. When they feel good, you feel good. Please donate: https://www.animalaidunlimited.org/donate
It seemed unlikely he would survive. But Captain Cutie had other plans!
Our rescue team doubted we could save this tiny puppy who had been hit by a car. He lay unconscious. Blood from his nose had pooled in a little puddle.
During the next 5 days, his very life force is in question. It was not clear whether or not he would pull through. For almost a week he couldn't eat and had to be fed by IV drip.
But gradually we could see he was a fighter, though he'd almost lost the battle for his life. We've called him Captain Cutie. Watch this video to see why!

Beautiful Marlo was near death after deep wound…
The depth of Marlo's wound was hidden beneath a thick flap of skin. Astoundingly, the wound's direction did not penetrate Marlo's intestines.
We gathered her up and hurried to the hospital where we immediately began preparing her for surgery, but we had to wait to begin until we were sure her stomach was empty.
We kept her quiet and snugly bandaged until her life-saving operation began with a thorough flushing and cleansing of the horrific wound, ensuring that several layers of stitches including the skin flaps were perfectly positioned so that the sutures would hold. Meet lovely, athletic, delightful Marlo now!

Tighter and tighter, a rope tied long ago was embedded in calf's neck…
Blood dropped from this young bull's neck but at first, we couldn't see the wound. As we got closer, the problem was all too familiar: someone had tied a rope around this calf's neck long ago, and then abandoned him. As he grew, the rope became tighter and tighter until it dug through his flesh, and now was embedded in his neck, along with maggots.
We hurried him to our hospital and removed the rope, the maggots and began what would be several months of regular wound dressings, fresh bandages, food and love.
What we discovered in this life-saving process was that we had a big beautiful baby on our hands! We shifted him into the "children's centre" where calves, sheep, goats, chickens, pigeons and tortoises grow big and strong.
Dandy is one of the biggest "people" in the paddock but you'd never mistake him for an adult--he's a great big baby, and he loves his many moms and dads.
You can almost hear them say "I'm safe now." Please donate:

Guess what color Margaret’s fur is after her mange is healed!
Hiding under a wooden bed, this young beauty was actually dying from advanced mange. She'd lost much more than her hair; she'd lost weight and vigor--the mange had robbed her of her happiness.
But once on our treatment table, Margaret revealed a beautiful gentle capacity for joy. And right away she recognized the treatment team as friends. We see by her ear notch that we'd previously spayed her during what must have been an admission for Canine Distemper.
She has the familiar twitch and no control of her tongue--neurological damage that stays for the rest of her life. Now, ensuring that she eats a LOT, we tackle the mange with medication, baths, and regular cuddles. Margaret is an ideal patient; agreeable at every step. And guess what color she is? Well, you'll just have to watch :)

Puppy's wound was almost too much for him to bear. Almost!
The neighbors knew this injured puppy was in serious peril. They covered him with an old burlap bag, wanting to keep him comfortable. At first, we couldn't see the problem. But when we lifted him we saw the gaping wound in his armpit.
How painful it must have been. He cried in agony and confusion when we lifted him. How we wish we could convey, even before reaching the hospital, that he's just on the brink of feeling relief and comfort. But until he's bandaged tight, he's hurting.
It took us several days to stabilize him enough for him to eat well. And from there, healing was straightforward, bringing out from his wounded little body a heart of gold and a soul as big as the sun. Meet gentle, loving Pintu now!

How was he even sitting with that awful head wound?
Jadoo means magic. When you watch this video of astounding healing from a wound that took almost all the flesh from this boy's head, you'll know why we've named him Jadoo.
He waited quietly near a temple gate, as if he were waiting for someone. But we couldn't take any chances--if Jadoo bolted out of our reach, he'd be dead within a couple of days. We sneaked up on him with our net in hand and whoosh! Got him!
The coming weeks would bring Jadoo dozens of wound dressings, clean bandages, hearty meals and the vast encouragement of love. Meet love-dove Jadoo now!

Instead of dying from distemper, Roop made it through.
Laying in a gutter, this little guy was at the final stage of Canine Distemper, a virus that attacks their nervous, respiratory and gastrointestinal system. Street dogs usually don't get vaccinated, and the mortality rate is extremely high.
His emaciated body, having been racked by fever and weakness so profound he couldn't eat, was ready to let go. That's when someone spotted him desperately seeking relief in the water, which dogs often do when they just don't know how to make the pain go away. Little Roop was on the verge of letting go, when help arrived.
His eyes were downcast in desolation. Although most young street dogs who are victims of Canine Distemper don't survive, intensive emergency treatment was his only chance. Most street dogs will never have access to that intensive care. But because of Animal Aid and tremendous public support, Little Roop had a chance.
Meet this gorgeous survivor now, transforming into Big Roop!
Just when he thought it was all over, help arrived. Please donate: www.animalaidunlimited.org/donate
Life-threatening wound and swelling almost left him to die...
This emaciated young bull was covered in blood and flies from a serious neck wound. He lay motionlessly; it seemed he was resigned to dying there on the side of the road.
But by the time this gentle soul arrived in our hospital his hope was somehow restored: he stood! An infection had caused great swelling at his lower jaw. It must have hurt Moby to eat; he could only slowly nibble the green grass we surrounded him with. But every time we cleaned his wound and re-bandaged Moby, he rewarded us with mountains of affection. His velvet-soft eyes were full of acceptance, trust and love.
What a pleasure it has been to heal Moby's wound. Now he is taller, (still quite thin) and full of affection. You'll see that most of our video footage after he's healed are frontal views, because he just won't stop following whoever holds the camera--Moby LOVES to be caressed.
