Today, on July 26th, we’re celebrating International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem which aims to raise awareness of the importance of mangroves and recognise them for the rare, spectacular and prolific climate superheros!
It’s an excellent opportunity for us to highlight their importance in Earthbanc’s mission to facilitate the transition to a sustainable and thriving planet. In celebration of International Mangrove Day, we are planting 30,000 trees! Half are mangroves trees, which will act as a defence system for the coastal fishing communities in the Sundarbans, while the other half are erosion control trees to be planted adjacent to the mangrove forests, including fruit, fibre, medicine and nut trees for the local communities we serve.
The 30,000 trees will sequester approximately 30,000 tonnes of CO2, and generate ecosystem services close to 2.3 million USD annually. Ecosystem services refer to the multifaceted benefits of mangrove trees, making them the most valuable tree on Earth.
Happy everyone! 🌱🌎
