Blood donation is considered an extremely noble deed not only in the human world but also in the animal kingdom.

We see plenty of dogs/ cats that are in urgent need of blood but due to lack of a organised network of blood donors it becomes very difficult to reach out in times of need.

In an effort to ease this struggle, we have prepared a small questionnaire that’ll help us reach out to potential donors when the need arises.

Let’s stay united in this journey and ensure every pet that needs blood has access to it.

If your pet fulfils the following criteria:
1. More than 30 kgs
2. Less than 8yrs of age
3. Dewormed and Vaccinated regularly
4. No history of vector borne disease in the recent past

Pyometra (or pus in the uterus) is an easily avoidable complication and one of the most common occurrences in intact female dogs.

Spay them when they’re healthy, spay them when it’s the right time.

Filariasis is a vector borne infection spread by mosquitoes. Recently at we had two cases, one which presented with a cutaneous worm and one which had formed a mass around the worm and was diagnosed on fine needle aspirate cytology ( FNAC).

Dirofilaria repens is a organism that spreads by the bite of mosquitoes and also can affect humans. In dogs it’s practically non-pathogenic but in humans it settles in the eye ball. A few cases have been reported in Mumbai.

They say diagnosis is the first step to treatment. A big thank you to and Dr. Gatne for being by our side and helping us to diagnose such unusual cases.

A naughty little beagle puppy was presented with bilateral cherry eyes.

‘Pocketing’ technique was performed in order to preserve the gland.

Just a gentle reminder to be careful when you leave your pets off leash when on walks.

Winters are here and Vipers are active in this season.
Take them for walks in well lit spaces and keep a watch on where they’re sniffing.

This Russell’s Viper was displaced from its habitat when they burned it down. When you see some reptile, don’t confront it but allow it to find its way out.

A veterinarian spends 5-7 years learning how to ease the pain your pet goes through, catching signs and symptoms to come to diagnosis, learn skills that require a lot of investment, stay up to date with advances in medicine and keep your pet healthy and happy.

Do check the credentials of the person treating your pet,

Just because…

1. They come home to inject medications/ vaccinations
2. Are cheaper than a real qualified Veterinarian
3. Experienced (??)
4. Available when you need them
5. Willing to do as ‘you’ feel is appropriate

Doesn’t qualify or authorise them to treat your pet or medicate them.

Pets are like family and they deserve the best they can get.

This last couple of weeks we’ve seen more corrective procedures than first time surgeries.

The first case was a pyometra of the uterine horns. The Labrador female was apparently operated at home by a ‘surgeon’ for a spay and the ovaries and uterine horns remained intact inside.

And the second case was a simple castration with a bleeder left in the sc***um. Had to do a scrotal ablation to stop the bleeding.

We as Veterinarians, pet parents and well wishers of all creatures urge pet parents to seek proper Veterinary guidance for your pets. Just because someone comes home to vaccinate or treat your pet doesn’t make him a Veterinarian, just because someone knows dog training doesn’t mean they know medicine.

Seek proper Veterinary advice, check the credentials of the person treating your pet, after all your pets are family and we ought to give them the best we can.
