The story of Pedro System in brief

At Overmed, innovation has always been the driving force behind every project. This is how Pedro System was born — our veterinary spinal fixation system, designed to improve techniques that had been used for decades.

Here are the main stages of the journey:

✅ The idea (2020) – bringing solutions already consolidated in human spinal surgery into the veterinary field.
✅ The clinical challenge – offering a safer, more modern alternative to traditional steel pins and PMMA.
✅ Development – 3 system sizes (for small, medium, and large dogs), designed with advanced software and 3D simulations.
✅ Production – synergy between engineering, additive manufacturing, and long-standing manufacturing expertise.
✅ Laboratory testing – mechanical and fatigue tests at the Polytechnic of Milan successfully passed.
✅ Ex-vivo testing – final validation of the procedure and surgical instruments, thanks to collaboration with physicians.

The result: an innovative system that is simple, reliable, and intuitive in the operating room.

👉 An important step for veterinary spinal surgery, and above all a concrete example of how research, experience, and collaboration can turn into innovation serving animals.

It was a great pleasure for us to take part in the Neurology: Advanced Neurosurgery course, organized by ESAVS on September 3, 2025, at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Prof. Dr. Franck Forterre, Course Master of the event, for the kind invitation and excellent organization, and to Dr. Massimo Baroni, who presented the Pedro System, sharing with participants its innovative potential and clinical relevance.

The strong participation and keen interest expressed make us proud and confirm the importance of opportunities for exchange and training in advancing veterinary neurosurgical practice.

Pedro System: Final Tests Successfully Completed

As mentioned in our previous article, the Pedro System has successfully passed the mechanical tests conducted by the Polytechnic Institute. One final and crucial step remained before its clinical application: ex-vivo testing.

Ideally, we would have tested the different “sizes” of the system on multiple specimens simultaneously. However, it's not always possible to conduct such tests under identical conditions. We therefore carried out the trials at different times for each size of the spinal system.

These tests, in addition to validating the device's performance already confirmed in previous trials, were essential to assess the effectiveness of the dedicated surgical instruments and to refine the surgical procedure. Only during this phase is it truly possible to evaluate whether the tools and the proposed approach are optimal to ensure not only the success of the procedure, but also ease of use for the surgeons.

After completing the full round of testing on the spinal system, and thanks to close collaboration with several physicians, we were able to make final adjustments to the instrumentation to further optimize its performance.

The result? A high-quality system designed to be simple, reliable, and intuitive in the operating room.

Do you remember Chucky?
He was diagnosed with a neoplasm affecting the T11 vertebral body, which had also led to a pathological fracture.

Thanks to Dr. Omar Del Vecchio, Chucky underwent a successful surgery using Overvet’s Pedro System, with bilateral stabilization of T10 and T12.

Just one month after surgery, Chucky is back on his paws—happy and doing well!

Veterinary surgery continues to advance, and we’re proud to support it with innovative solutions like the Pedro System.

We are proud to share the successful application of our PedroSystem small by Dr. Cristian Falzone, veterinary neurologist and neurosurgeon, in a highly complex surgical case.

A 4 kg poodle survived a fall from the third floor, suffering vertebral fractures and dislocations at L7-S1 and T13-L1.
The patient underwent bilateral stabilization using Ø2.0–2.7 mm screws, expertly managed with our PedroSystem.

This case highlights the precision, reliability, and adaptability of the PedroSystem—even in the most delicate patients.
