Are you passionate about protecting Sardinia’s stunning coastline? Do you want to make a tangible difference in the fight against plastic pollution? What is the origin of plastic, and how can we tackle it effectively?
We invite you to join our “Plastic Fantastic” Seminar: Sardinia Edition, organized by the REMEDIES for Ocean program in collaboration with CNR (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche), Venice Lagoon Plastic Free, University of Maribor, and Impact Hub Athens. This in-person seminar, to be held in Sardinia, Italy, will provide invaluable knowledge for anyone eager to understand and address the pressing issue of plastic pollution in their local community.
The seminar will offer a comprehensive exploration of plastic identification and management, designed by leading scientists and chemists who specialize in plastics and microplastics. Participants will gain insights into different types of plastics, their recyclability, and practical steps to become more conscious consumers. The content is tailored to Sardinia’s unique challenges and the specific actions being undertaken locally under the REMEDIES program. By focusing on scientific methods developed during REMEDIES, attendees will learn how to identify and categorize plastic waste effectively, ensuring that local clean-up activities are both impactful and data-driven.
This seminar is an opportunity to empower yourself with the knowledge and tools to become a local advocate for sustainable consumption. With our project "Ocean Lovers”, we are committed every day to the preservation of the marine environment and the protection of turtles.

Today, we want to share with you the story of Patastrocchia, found in the Gulf of Marinella in 2022, beached and suffering from hypothermia. She was small, less than 10 cm long and less than 3 months old.

Thanks the biologists of “Sardinian Regional Network for the Conservation of sea turtles”, Patastrocchia has grown and recovered, even expelling plastic and polystyrene, highlighting the severity of marine pollution. After 2 years, we are thrilled to announce that our mascot will soon be released back into the Gulf of Marinella, where she was found

Please become part of the project by sharing the story of Patastrocchia.
We are looking for someone who can donate a satellite device and is ready to adopt her, giving her a new name as a sign of a new life. Your participation is crucial to continue protecting and monitoring these magnificent creatures.

⭐️Ci saremo anche noi del CReS con il nostro stand, venite a trovarci e vi daremo informazioni utili su come segnalare una tartaruga marina in difficoltà e contribuire a salvarla 🐢🐢🐢🐢, vi parleremo del problema della plastica in mare e quindi del progetto Europeo Remedies , incentrato proprio sul problema della plastica, le innovazioni tecnologiche a supporto delle attività di monitoraggio, di prevenzione e di rimozione della plastica in mare e nei fiumi europei. ...e se vi va brinderemo anche con un'ottima birra artigianale grazie a Strade di Birra ⭐️

𝑳𝒂 𝑻𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒖𝒈𝒂 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒂... affascinante e maestoso rettile. 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑎 𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑎 è probabilmente la specie più conosciuta e diffusa nel Mediterraneo, ma non è più importante delle altre sei specie distribuite nella fascia tropicale e temperata dei mari del mondo.


Purtroppo, il fattore comune non è solo l’aspetto, ma anche il 𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒐 𝒅𝒊 𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒛𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒆 al quale sono esposte. Sono costantemente minacciate dalla cattura accidentale, dalla degradazione dell’habitat, dal disturbo antropico e dai 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒊𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊 𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒊, 𝒅𝒐𝒗𝒖𝒕𝒊 𝒊𝒏 𝒃𝒖𝒐𝒏𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍’𝒊𝒏𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒐 da plastiche, che vengono ingerite accidentalmente o in cui vi rimangono intrappolate, causando danni all’apparato digerente e riportando gravi lesioni alle pinne.

🥳Ultimo nostro articolo scientifico sull'interazione delle Microplastiche...questa volta con gli anemoni!!🥳 Di seguito un piccolo riassunto del lavoro:

"La plastica è uno dei componenti più comuni tra i rifiuti marini e gli ftalati sono i maggiori additivi associati alla plastica. Essi interagiscono con una varietà di organismi, dai pesci agli invertebrati marini, causando preoccupazione a causa della loro natura tossica. In questo studio, microplastiche (MP) e ftalati (PAE) vengono studiati simultaneamente in due specie comuni e commestibili di anemoni di mare (Actinia equina e Anemonia viridis), mostrando che questi contaminanti possono essere collegati e che i PAE possono essere utilizzati come traccianti indiretti dell'interazione tra marine litter e biota."

"Globally, plastic has become a common component of marine litter. Phthalate esters are the most commonly found contaminants associated with plastic. They interact with a variety of organisms, from fishes to marine invertebrates, causing concern due to their toxic nature. In this study, two common and edible sea anemone species (Actinia equina and Anemonia viridis) are investigated simultaneously for microplastics (MPs) and phthalates (PAEs), showing that these contaminants may be linked, and PAEs can be used as indirect tracers of plastic debris-biota interaction in the short term."

⭐️Recuperata in seguito allo spiaggiamento nel Golfo di Marinella in stato di ipotermia e consegnata all' , ora dopo 2 anni di degenza al CReS l'esemplare di Caretta caretta ha recuperato tutte le sue funzioni vitali, è in ottima forma ed è cresciuto fino ad una dimensione tale per cui sarà meno vulnerabile ai predatori naturali una volta rilasciato in natura. Appunto...preparatevi all'evento: stiamo programmando il rilascio di Patastrocchia che avverrà nella prossima stagione calda! Ovviamente vi terremo aggiornati⭐️
