Betulla and Minerva are two adorable puppies of Maremma-Abruzzi Sheepdog. Betulla e Minerva sono due deliziose cucciole di Pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese.

Betulla and Minerva are two lovely puppies of Maremma-Abruzzi Sheepdog who live in the mountains of the central Italy along with a big white bitch, other four little dogs, a small flock of cashmere goats and three hens. Their full name is "Betulla del Velino Sirente" and "Minerva di Arajani" and they are the little princesses of a small, secret realm made of pastures, woods and cliffs. At the time

of the creation of this page Betulla and Minerva are nine months old. However, my name is Roberto Palozzi and I want to tell their story and their adventures because, through them, I hope that many other people will discover how unique and extraordinary are the Maremma-Abruzzi Sheepdog. Moreover the stories of Betulla, Minerva & Co. will also be the means to discuss of cinofilia at all levels, farming/zootechnics and zoology/anumal ecology in general. Betulla e Minerva sono due deliziose cucciolone di Cane da Pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese che vivono sulle montagne dell'Italia Centrale insieme a una grande c***a bianca, altri 4 cagnetti, un piccolo gregge di caprette da cashmere e 3 galline. Il loro nome completo è Betulla del Velino Sirente e Minerva di Arajani e sono le principessine di un piccolo reame segreto fatto di pascoli, boschi e dirupi. Al momento della creazione di questa pagina Betulla e Minerva hanno 9 mesi di vita. Io invece mi chiamo Roberto Palozzi e voglio raccontarvi la loro storia e le loro avventure perchè, per mezzo di esse, spero di far scoprire a tante altre persone quanto unici e straordinari siano i Cani da Pastore Maremmano-Abruzzesi. E le storie di Betulla, Minerva & Co. saranna anche il mezzo per parlare di cinofilia a tutti i livelli, di allevamento/zootecnia e di zoologia in generale.

These are the first photos of Modesty Barebone's first litter with Reate by "I Cani di Varrone."
Modesty isn't one of our "famous" dogs, in the sense that she's never appeared on social media, except as a puppy; but she's a Maremma Sheepdog who simply makes you happy. ❤
Her dad is the 2025 Crufts winner and 2025 European Champion, Reate: he doesn't need much introduction because, unlike Modesty, he's well-known on Facebook.
But the most important thing is that their puppies are beautiful: big, strong, beautifully pigmented, and relaxed.
At birth, they already looked like 4-5-day-old puppies.
These photos were taken on their second day of life. But, in reality, they were born about a month ago (yes, we're culpably late this time...😁).
Now they're simply spectacular! 🥰😁😊 (their current photos coming soon)

Queste sono le prime foto della prima cucciolata di Modesty Barebone con Reate de "I cani di Varrone".
Modesty non è una dei nostri cani "famosi", nel senso che non è mai apparsa sui social, se non da cucciola; ma è un Pastore Maremmano Abruzzese che, semplicemente, ti fa felice. ❤
Il papà è il vincitore del Crufts 2025 e Campione Europeo 2025, Reate: lui non ha bisogno di molte presentazioni perché, al contrario di Modesty, è ben conosciuto su Facebook.
Ma la cosa più importante è che i loro cuccioli sono bellissimi: grossi, forti, super pigmentati, rilassati.
Alla nascita sembravano già cuccioli di 4-5 giorni di età.
Queste foto sono state scattate durante il loro secondo giorno di vita. Ma, in realtà sono nati da circa un mese (ebbene sì, stavolta siamo in colpevole ritardo...😁).
Adesso sono semplicemente spettacolari! 🥰😁😊 (presto loro foto attuali)

I have to apologize because I almost forgot to make an unmissable post!
The one about the names of the latest puppies arriving in the enchanted realm of "Betulla, Minerva & Co." 😁
So, even though I'm late, I'll make up for it immediately.
This litter is dedicated to the lifelong companions of Saint Francis of Assisi, whose 800th death anniversary will be next year.
My Maremma and the Abruzzes Sheepdog kennel, "I cani di Varrone," is located right above one of the sanctuaries where Saint Francis lived for a long time and where, among other things, he wrote the Franciscan Rule.
These are the names of the three male puppies:
- Brother Leone
- Brother Rufino
- Brother Masseo
The female's name is:
- Frata Jacopa de' Settesoli
The photos in this post are from almost 4 weeks ago, when the puppies were 66 days old (at the vet for a checkup and vaccinations).

Mi devo scusare perché stavo per dimenticare di fare un post immancabile!
Quello, cioè, dei nomi degli ultimi cuccioli arrivati nel Reame incantato di "Betulla, Minerva & Co." 😁
E dunque, seppur in ritardo, rimedio immediatamente.
Questa cucciolata è dedicata ai compagni di vita di San Francesco d'Assisi del quale, l'anno prossimo, ricorreranno gli 800 anni della morte.
Il mio allevamento di Pastori Maremmani Abruzzesi, "I cani di Varrone", sorge proprio sopra uno dei santuari dove San Francesco visse a lungo e dove, tra le altre cose, scrisse la Regola Francescana.
Questi i nomi dei 3 cuccioli maschi:
- Fratel Leone
- Fratel Rufino
- Fratel Masseo
Il nome della fe*******ia è:
- Frata Jacopa de' Settesoli
Le foto di questo post risalgono a quasi 4 settimane fa quando i cuccioli avevano 66 giorni di età (dal veterinario per visita di controllo e vaccinazioni).

About twenty days ago, our beloved Porpentina gave birth to these adorable puppies. 🥰🥰🥰
As usual, Porpentina has been wonderful and is caring for her little ones with touching dedication.
These photos were taken two days after the birth.

It's been a while since we've heard anything about little Paradis.
Don't worry. She's just having a blast being a shepherdess in the Kingdom (and she's also getting up to a few mischiefs every now and then - more updates on that in future posts)!
Oh, and by the way, she's now officially been proclaimed the International Junior Beauty Champion and Croatian Beauty Champion.
Not bad for our shepherdess! ❤🥰🏵

E' da un po' di tempo che non arrivano più notizie della piccola Paradis.
Non preoccupatevi. E' solo che se la gode alla grande a fare la pastorella nel Reame (e anche a fare qualche marachella ogni tanto - ulteriori aggiornamenti al riguardo nei prossimi post)!
Oh, a proposito, nel frattempo è stata ufficialmente proclamata Giovane Campionessa Internazionale e Campionessa Croata di Bellezza.
Niente male per la nostra pastorella! ❤🥰🏵

2-3 weeks ago we had the great pleasure of having the children of the "Tata Mary" summer camp meet our Reate and Paradis, as ambassadors of the "Maremma and the Abruzzes Sheeepdog" breed.
Even today, in fact, white shepherds are considered aggressive and potentially dangerous dogs.
Fortunately, Reate and Paradis demonstrated to the children how far this is from the truth; so much so that, at the end of the meeting, the two Maremmas were literally swamped by the little ones competing to pet them.
Even a little girl terrified of dogs managed to conquer her fear and pet the sweet Paradis, first on the back and then on the head. She was simply extraordinary: as if sensing the little girl's anxiety, she stood in front of her and stretched her head toward her, closing her eyes and holding them tight until the little girl found the courage to pet her.
The little girl walked away almost in disbelief of her experience! 🥰

2 - 3 settimane faabbiamo avuto il grande piacere di far incontrare ai bambini del centro estivo "Tata Mary" i nostri Reate and Paradis, in qualità di ambasciatori della razza "Cane da Pastore Maremmano Abruzzese".
Ancora oggi, infatti, i bianchi pastori sono considerati cani aggressivi e potenzialmente pericolosi.
Fortunatamente Reate e Paradis hanno dimostrato ai bambini quanto questo sia lontano dalla verità; tanto che, alla fine dell'incontro, i due maremmani sono stati letteralmente sommersi dai piccoli che facevano a gara per accarezzarli.
Persino una bambina terrorizzata dai cani è riuscita a vincere la sua paura e ad accarezzare, dapprima sulla schiena e poi sulla testa, la dolcissima Paradis. Che è stata semplicemente straordinaria: come se avesse percepito l'ansia della bambina, le si è messa di fronte e a allungato la testa verso di lei chiudendo gli occhi e tenendoli stretti fintanto che la bimba ha trovato il coraggio di accarezzarla.
La bimba si è allontanata quasi incredula della sua esperienza! 🥰
