🦥 Discover how Durrell volunteers help us care for our sloths alongside keepers this 🦥

✍️ Our volunteers based in the South American House at Jersey Zoo record the movements and behaviours of our sloths, as well as visitor numbers and noise levels, whilst doing their usual ranger duties.

🌡 Using further recorded information, such as room temperature, humidity, and light levels, we are collating this data to assess different environmental conditions and look at the relationship between sloth behaviours and enclosure variables.

💚 This , you can restore an estate in the Scottish Highlands for both people and wildlife. 💚

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Decades of historical land use on the Dalnacardoch Estate in the Cairngorms National Park have left wildlife clinging on in fragments. Together, we can breathe life back into this land by:

💧 Reviving the peatlands by blocking drains to stop water and life from draining from them.

🌱 Restoring natural processes and habitats through planting and natural regeneration of woodlands and revitalising the river.

🦫 Collaborating with organisations and neighbouring estates to encourage iconic species such as beavers and wildcats that have long been missing to return.

🌳 Inspiring local communities and visitors to immerse themselves in the environment.

⭐️ Creating jobs and establishing a one-of-a-kind training centre for conservationists and land managers.

👇 A gift from you will help recover this landscape for future generations to reconnect with Scotland’s native biodiversity.

⭐️ Join us on our 100-year journey to help this landscape thrive again ⭐️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Durrell’s first programme in Scotland, the Dalnacardoch Estate spans 18,500 acres. Decades of historical land use have left wildlife here clinging on in fragments.

🌱 However, there is hope. You can help recover this magnificent landscape so future generations can reconnect with Scotland’s native biodiversity.

💧 Together, we can breathe life back into this land by restoring a rich mosaic of habitats and creating a landscape where natural processes flourish and once-lost species return.

💚 Working with local communities, we will nurture a deep, emotional, and economic connection between people and the environment.

Our Story

Jersey Zoo was founded in 1959 by author and naturalist Gerald Durrell. Our 32 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds are home to over 100 species of bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian, many of which are threatened with extinction in the wild.

The zoo serves as a sanctuary, captive breeding and research centre, and headquarters to our global charity, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, who’s mission is ‘Saving Species from Extinction’. Over the last 60 years, our experts have saved 14 species from extinction, released thousands of animals into the wild of 26 species, trained 5,500 conservationists from 142 countries and protected 435,445 hectares of habitat.

Our onsite facilities include the Durrell Conservation Academy, luxury wildlife camp, hostel, two cafés, and gift shop.
