Good afternoon Iwakuni! As of August 1st the only change to entering the USA from Japan will be a notification of import on the CDC website!!

Updates to CDC’s August 1 dog importation rule: If you are bringing a dog into the US from a dog rabies-free or low-risk country, you now only need to fill out the simple CDC Dog Import Form. Other forms are no longer needed. The requirements for dogs arriving from high-risk countries have not changed, and these dogs are still required to have additional documents. Good Morning Iwakuni!!!

Starting August 1st per the CDC dogs 6 months or younger WILL NOT be allowed into the United States. If they are 6 month and older they need to be vaccined for rabies atleast 28 days prior to entry if this is their FIRST ever rabies vaccine. Please stand by for the new US import of dog guidlines Starting August 1st.

The CDC has published new requirements for importing dogs into the United States. These changes will impact all service members bringing dogs into the United States starting 1 August 2024!

Changes include the minimum age the dog can be to travel, vaccination status, and having proper paperwork filled out.

It is important to notice there are different requirements for pets who are rabies vaccinated at the on base facility versus off base. It is recommended to get the rabies vaccine at the MCAS Iwakuni Veterinarian if you are PCSing this summer to avoid additional steps to gain entry into the United States.
