Yawa! Mbona nawekwa page moja na Sabato yaye? At least sisi hutusi 20% mediocre songs, and support 80% real music. Hamtatulamisha kusupport kina Parroty bana! But we appreciate the recognition! PlayKeMusic!
Now that the busy summer is over, I have managed to go through my inbox and read so many comments on this page.
I would just like to clarify a few things:
đI am not a PR agent in the music industry, and this is not a PR page. Thereâs absolutely no musician or their management, that pay me to influence what I write on this page. Everything I write here is truly from my point of view and do not represent anyone else or any organization. I have said it here many times, I am not a blogger. I am a journalist. I will write what needs to be written, based on research, interviews, industry experience and of course, my opinion.
đI started this page two years ago after Kenyan musician Bahati went online to complain about the invasion of Naija and Bongo music, constantly topping Kenyan charts. I decided to start posting on what went wrong and possible solutions, all based on insights inspired by my close to 25 years as an entertainment journalist.
đI write TBT stories on Thursdays. The Kenyan music industry has very many untold stories. There is no library out here in the UK that I can refer to. Most of the stories are purely based on my experience in the industry and what I can remember. A few times I call people to clarify some stories, which is normal. Someone has to tell these stories.
đUpcoming artists. I donât touch them. Itâs not that I donât like them or donât want to support them, no. You see, I did my time. The upcoming artists I wrote about and supported when I was based in Nairobi, are now established artists. I grew with them, career wise. Thatâs why I concentrate mostly on the established ones. There are very many young and new journalists and bloggers who will do that, and will grow with them. I am not here to hog their space. To support upcoming acts, I will be sharing, like I always do, titbits and insights on how to navigate in this tough industry. Purely based on my experience in my career. Shout out to creators like High On Bars, Bloga Flani, Ian Steve, Achieng Otiato, Hip Hop Heads, Alex Manya, among others. Ukitaka kusoma matusi kwa artists, kuna kina Sabato na ANKO TV, they have perfected that. If I want to check who is currently trending, I will camp on Jay Classicâs page, the unofficial YouTube views and followers correspondent. Keep doing that kid, very helpful.
đOn the international entertainment scene, especially on Afro Beats, I got you. I got access to that. I will be filling you in.
đFinally, no podcast. I can control myself better in writing, I have done this a long time. I canât promise that on a podcast. Hehe. You see, during my time in Nairobi for about 15 years, so many artists trusted me with information. I hold so many industry secrets. They are safe, not sure if I should say âfor nowââŠhehe.
Kwa hayo tisa, nafikiri tuko pamoja. Letâs engage positively. For any questions, the comments section and my inbox, all open. Cheers
