is Animal Pain Awareness Month.

How do you recognize that your pet is experiencing some pain. Here are the common things to observe:

🐾Limping or Difficulty Moving – Your pet may avoid going up the stairs, have trouble standing, or is limping.
🐾Changes in Appetite – A pet in pain may eat less or refuse food altogether.
🐾Whining or Whimpering – is vocalizing more than usual is an indication of discomfort.
🐾Aggression or Irritability – A usually calm pet may become snappy or withdrawn.
🐾Licking or Biting – Excessive grooming of a specific area may be a sign of pain.

These are some of the signs that will help you notice any signs of discomfort that are attributed to pain.

At The Andys Veterinary Clinic, we are committed to providing quality, standard healthcare for your pets.

04/09/2024

The Andys Veterinary Clinic is officially observing September as International Animal Pain Awareness Month, an initiative aimed at increasing awareness regarding the pain experienced by animals, in alignment with the Pain Awareness Month observed in human medicine. Similar to humans, animals are susceptible to various forms of pain, including those associated with surgery, arthritis, and cancer. While acute pain is typically noticeable and distressing, chronic pain can be more subtle and is often mistakenly attributed to the natural aging process. It is essential to recognize that aging itself is not a pathological condition, whereas pain is a significant clinical concern. There are numerous effective interventions available for managing pain in animals, such as medical treatments, physical rehabilitation, acupuncture, laser therapy, and therapeutic massage.
By observing this awareness month, The Andys Veterinary Clinic emphasizes its dedication to promoting pain management across all animal species through both educational efforts and advocacy. Besides, during this month of September, The Andys Veterinary Clinic strongly advises pet owners, particularly those with companion animals over six years of age, to take them for pain assessment and appropriate pain management programs initiated at the earliest opportunity.
