Let take this opportunity to take you through the process one should take when bringing in chicks or birds to your farm.
1.Organise for the feeds from a certified distributor this will help you know the no.of birds or chicks you can comfortably afford since feeding is basically 70% of the whole process of rearing.
2.Prepare your brooder or room making sure everything is working perfectly and drinkers and feeders are clean and in good condition.
3.Using a strong disinfectant like kerol properly spray the room using a knap sack sprayer and let it 'rest' not less than a week, the day before arrival of the chicks use bio-safe to spray the room again to kill any bacteria.
4.The day of arrival of the chicks carrefully arrange the feeders and drinkers(of course with feeds and water which is containing multi-vitamins and liquid paraffin).
5.Bring in the birds happily into their new home make sure you have sufficient and alternative heating sources to provide heat during at night or when the weather is chilly.

RATS!!! RATS!!!

It is very normal to see a rat one or two maximum in any poultry farm..Hehe.They are a nuisance if not controlled:they will bite electric wires causing power blackout or faults in the chicken house, bite up the feed sacks exposing the feeds leading to contamination and wastage, bite your birds(around the leg area very common in broilers) it's just crazy the amount of damage they can cause when compared to their size.As a poultry farmer always make sure you have method of controlling these rodents, if you are using pellets place them where your birds can't reach them otherwise you birds will ingest and die.

This is a very vital equipment to have as a poultry farmer in your farm. It is a saw-dust sifter, wood shavings is separate from the fine dust particles by sieving. Importance of such process helps in:
1.Prevention of poultry diseases such as Cough Respiratory Disease (CRD) and Infectious coryza which is mainly brought about by dust particles.
2.Reduces mortality during brooding since the day old chicks can ingest the fine dust particles leading to death.
3.Wood shavings helps in adsorption of ammonia and also acts as a bedding material for birds.
