Here is a case of canine trypanosomiasis with ophthalmic involvement in a dog. The owner complained of bilateral "bluish" film on the eyes indicative of corneal edema with a second dog having succumbed to the condition.

A confirmatory diagnosis was made via a blood smear examination and therapeutic intervention was immediately instituted. This disease is commonly known as Nagana, Surra or Chagas disease.

🍎🍌🍇 **Fruitful Benefits for Animals** 🍏🍉🍓

Did you know that fruits are not just delicious for us, but also play a crucial role in the diets of many animals? Here's why fruits are so important for our furry and feathered friends:

1️⃣ Nutrient Powerhouses:Fruits are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help animals stay healthy and strong.

2️⃣ Energy Boost:Fruits are a great source of natural sugars, providing a quick and sustainable energy boost for animals.

3️⃣ Hydration:Fruits like watermelon and oranges are high in water content, helping animals stay hydrated, especially in hot weather.

4️⃣ Diverse Diet:Including fruits in their diet allows animals to enjoy a variety of flavors and textures, keeping their meals interesting.

5️⃣ Seed Dispersal: Many animals play a crucial role in seed dispersal by eating fruits and spreading seeds through their droppings, helping plants reproduce and thrive.

Next time you enjoy a fruity snack, remember that animals love them too! 🐒🦜🐻

Taking care of pets in high temperatures is crucial to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and comfortable during hot weather:

1. Provide Plenty of Water : Ensure your pets have access to fresh, clean water at all times. Change the water frequently and consider using a large, heavy bowl to prevent tipping.

2. Shade and Ventilation: Provide ample shade for your pets, whether they are indoors or outdoors. Ensure there is proper ventilation to help them stay cool.

3. Limit Outdoor Time: Avoid exercising or walking your pets during the hottest parts of the day. Instead, opt for early morning or evening walks when it's cooler.

4. Avoid Hot Surfaces:Asphalt and concrete can get very hot and can burn your pet's paws. Walk them on grass or use protective booties.

5. Cooling Mats or Pads:Use cooling mats or pads for your pets to lie on. These can help them regulate their body temperature.

6. Avoid Enclosed Spaces:Do not leave your pets in enclosed spaces, such as cars or poorly ventilated rooms, as temperatures can quickly become dangerous.

7. Grooming:Regular grooming can help prevent overheating. However, do not shave your pet's fur too short as it can provide insulation against the heat.

8. Monitor for Signs of Heatstroke: Symptoms of heatstroke include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and collapse. If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, seek veterinary attention immediately.

9. Provide Frozen Treats:Offer your pets frozen treats or ice cubes to help them cool down and stay hydrated.

10. Hydration on the Go: If you're out and about with your pet, bring water and a portable bowl to keep them hydrated.

This is Tasha, a female domestic short hair cat 🐈 that was presented with a history of skin infection, no vaccination, deworming or flea and tick medication.

👩🏾‍⚕️Examination: lethargic, dullness, head lowering, reluctance to move, pale mucous membranes, blepharitis, ophthalmitis, ocular and nasal discharge, elephant skin with thick debri accumulation majorly on the distal limbs and ear pinnae, matted fur

Based on the clinical signs, there was a conclusive diagnosis of chronic mange infection. Unfortunately the patient succumbed to the illnesses a few hours later.

We stress the need for prevention of this disease by routine administration of mite, flea and tick medication such as Bravecto®. We also recommended routine vaccination and deworming for your pets generally health and wellbeing.

is a fungal infection that can affect your furry friend's skin, fur, and even nails. It's contagious and can spread to other pets and humans, so early detection is key! Here's what you should know:

🔍 Symptoms:Look out for circular patches of hair loss, redness, and scaly skin. Your dog might be itchy or have a dull coat.

⚠️ Causes: Ringworm is caused by various fungi that thrive in warm, moist environments. Dogs can pick it up from infected soil, animals, or even humans.

💊 Treatment: For Lola's case, as seen above, treatment was by use of medications , both topical and oral, and medicated shampoo.

🚫 Prevention: Keep your dog clean and dry, especially if they're in a humid environment.

🐶 Remember: Ringworm is treatable and typically resolves within a few weeks to a few months with proper treatment and care.

🐱Saggy belly?? Pregnancy?? Snack pack?? No... Primordial pouch.

Ever noticed that little flap of skin hanging down on your cat's belly? 🤔 It's called the primordial pouch, and it's not just extra weight from a few too many treats! This pouch serves a purpose beyond aesthetics. 🌟

1. Protection: This pouch provides extra protection to vital organs during fights or falls. It's like a built-in shield!

2. Flexibility: Cats are natural athletes, and this pouch allows for extra flexibility and stretch during high-speed chases or acrobatic maneuvers.

3. Weight Distribution: Think of it like a kangaroo's pouch – it helps with balance and stability, especially when leaping or landing.

So, next time you give your kitty a belly rub, remember, that primordial pouch is more than just a cute little flap – it's a vital part of their feline anatomy! 🐾

Oftentimes we receive emergency cases of dogs who have been bitten by snakes. Subtle differences exist between the symptoms and signs depending on the species of the snake. Some snakes are venomous while some are non-venomous. The common signs in snake envenomation is sudden collapse with immediate recovery, unexpected bleeding from the nose, mouth or blood in urine, tremors and dilated pupils.

Good boy Spencer was brought in after he tried to kiss a snake🐍.

The polyvalent or polyspecific antivenom came in handy as it neutralizes multiple snake venoms since in our case, the specific snake could not be adequately described. It provides effective therapy against a selection of the medically most important snakes within a geographical area.
