Organic Vegetables:
The farm produces fresh vegetables for the Nairobi and Kenya market, using traditional and organic methods. The cool climate and deep red soils make the area ideal for growing high quality cool climate vegetables. We do not try to compete with other warmer areas in growing hot climate vegetables with all the associated greenhouses and inputs, rather favouring the doctrine of
growing what grows best and easiest and following the seasons. The farm also runs a small diary herd, which keeps us and a few favoured customers in fresh milk and butter and our also keeps the compost heap well stocked. Extensive planting of indigenous trees on the old wattle plantations is a continuing project which leaves much of the farm fallow and encourages wildlife and bird life to flourish particularly around the farm lake and Karura river. A system of paths winds through the adjoining valleys providing good walking around this most beautiful part of the country. Kawamwaki’s neighbours are tea estates and coupled with the elevation of the land gives magnificent riding and walking, close to Nairobi with breathtaking views. Horse Riding:
At Kawamwaki Farm we have a range of horses and ponies for hire, and our grooms can take you for hacks on well schooled horses through the rolling countryside of Limuru. The cost is 1,500/- per hour. All riders must bring and wear their own riding hats and sign the necessary liability waivers. They must also have some riding experience and before going out the syces will evaluate new rider’s ability. There is a 90 kg (200lb) weight limit as our horses are not heavyweights!
