The Machakos Donkey owners, inspired by people’s power and the Constitution of Kenya see the trade involving donkey products as of negative gains to the species.
To both the people of Machakos and sundry. They then resolved to;
Issue a brief of there public participatory meeting to the government of Kenya through the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Co-operative and Blue Economy and the Director of Veterinary Services (DVS).
They will, in the brief be seeking to the aforementioned to:
1. Realize that the commercial slaughter of donkeys is not sustainable, that the skin trade has serious negative socio-economic impacts to donkey -dependent communities and vulnerable groups within society; that donkey population has been depleted drastically since the slaughter in Machakos was licensed.

At the time of licensing of the export slaughterhouses and even after, donkeys were not kept with an aim of donkey skin trade.
Since 2016, donkey population has declined at an alarming rate with over 800,000 donkeys not accounted for between 2016 and 2019 – attributed to
slaughter and death.
This begs the question, Should we sit, watch and agree to the possible extinction of this vital animal?

Since 2016, Kenya allowed four donkey export slaughter houses that have
demonstrated their slaughter prowess and whose activities have catalyzed trade
alongside criminalities such as theft, bush slaughter and unimaginable socioeconomic pain to donkey keepers.
Is this move a step to the right or wrong direction to the donkey keepers, the donkeys themselves or/and Biodiversity?
