Annual audits are vital for any microfinance institution and especially -rooted organizations like SOFDEV. This is because they uphold transparency, strengthen community confidence, and promote long-term sustainability.

Our team joined Yatta-kwa Vonza Solidarity Fund for Development (SOFDEV) committee to support the reconciliation of financial books for the 2024/2025 financial year📈, ensuring the institution remains accountable and well-positioned for informed decision-making.

Through strengthening accountability, we safeguard the community’s financial future and create a foundation for greater opportunities.🤝

🐐Goat and chicken rearing form the backbone of community livelihoods. Providing families with nutrition, 💰, and a pathway to self-reliance. For many smallholder farmers, this potential often remains untapped. With the right skills in animal health, feeding, housing, and , livestock keeping can transform from a traditional practice into a profitable enterprise that sustains families and strengthens communities.

This is what we continue to support through our Livestock Chain component through strengthening farmers’ capacity to view goats and chickens not just as , but as engines for sustainable income generation and environmental stewardship.

Today’s trainings helped farmers acquire practical knowledge in goat and poultry rearing enabling them to improve productivity, reduce losses, and enhance income. Beyond income generation, the integration of livestock contributes to farming, as manure from goats and chickens enriches soils, reduces dependence on chemical fertilizers, and promotes agroecological practices.
Members who have embraced these practices are already witnessing change with healthier farms, improved household nutrition, and a renewed sense of sustainability.

✨ In every skill passed on, communities move closer to sustainable livelihoods where productivity goes hand in hand with care for the land and its people. ✨

𝗔𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗬 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣 𝗜𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗞𝗢𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗬

The Kenya Platform For Climate Governance- KPCG, in collaboration with Fastenaktion, Act for Change, the Machakos CSO Network represented by: INADES-Formation Kenya, BIDII and Utooni Development Organization, and the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, held a two-day workshop on “Building Resilient Agroecological Systems” from 24th–25th October 2025 at Katoloni Pastoral and Retreat Center, Machakos County.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Faith Ngige, National Coordinator of KPCG, emphasized the critical role of agroecology in building climate resilience and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farmers.

Ms. Stellamaris Muleh, Country Director of Fastenaktionnaktion and Program Coordinator at Act for Change Trust, underscored the importance of justice-centered climate actions that uplift women, youth, and marginalized farmers in climate governance.

Father Januarius Kioko, representing the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, commended the collaboration among civil society and county actors, noting that protecting the environment is both a moral and practical responsibility.

The event was officially graced by Hon. Rita Ndunda, CECM for the Department of Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock and Cooperative Development -Machakos County, who conveyed greetings from Hon Wavinya Ndeti Governor and reaffirmed the county’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and climate action.

Over the two days, participants explored agroecological practices, policy gaps, carbon trading, and Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) opportunities—culminating in the development of the Machakos County Communique outlining actionable priorities and policy asks for scaling climate-resilient agroecological systems.

The workshop successfully empowered communities to understand the shift from practice to policy and the pivotal role they play in shaping agroecology instruments that provide an enabling framework for transformation.

🌾 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗠𝗿. 𝗡𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 – 𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 🌿

Meet Mr. Nthenge, one of our outstanding farmers who has turned knowledge into action! Through Agroecology training by INADES-Formation Kenya, Mr. Nthenge discovered the power of sustainable farming, blending indigenous knowledge with modern ecological practices to restore soil health and boost productivity.

As an Agroecology Innovator, Mr. Nthenge has developed creative ways to reduce reliance on non-organic fertilizers by producing and using natural compost and organic manure. His approach not only improves soil fertility but also promotes environmentally friendly farming that benefits both people and the planet.

Today, Mr. Nthenge is not only applying what he learned - he’s sharing it. With confidence and passion, he now trains fellow community members on agroecological practices such as composting, intercropping, and natural pest control.
His efforts have greatly contributed to the success of the thriving demonstration plot at Kwa Kilungu Agroecology Demo Farm - a living classroom where farmers come to learn, exchange ideas, and witness the transformation that eco-friendly farming brings.

Mr. Nthenge’s journey is a shining example of empowerment and innovation in action. When knowledge takes root, communities grow stronger. 🌱

The 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is being observed globally today under the theme: “𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.”

This theme calls for increased funding for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in public and international budgets and urges that all development and private investments be risk-informed and resilient.

At INADES-Formation Kenya, we put this call into action through our Climate Resilient Practices component, which promotes better livelihoods by supporting farmers to adopt climate-resilient farming methods. Using participatory approaches such as the Participatory Assessment of Climate, Disaster & Risks (PACDR), communities and stakeholders collectively identify and respond to climate-related challenges such as droughts, floods, and disease outbreaks, turning vulnerabilities into opportunities for preparedness and growth.

Farmers working with INADES-Formation Kenya in arid and semi-arid areas are investing in resilient practices such as soil health management, water harvesting, and the use of zai pits, as demonstrated at Kwa Kilungu Demo Farm.

By investing in resilience today, we reduce the cost of disasters tomorrow — building communities that are safer, stronger, and better equipped to face climate challenges.
