The Kenya Platform For Climate Governance- KPCG, in collaboration with Fastenaktion, Act for Change, the Machakos CSO Network represented by: INADES-Formation Kenya, BIDII and Utooni Development Organization, and the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, held a two-day workshop on โBuilding Resilient Agroecological Systemsโ from 24thโ25th October 2025 at Katoloni Pastoral and Retreat Center, Machakos County.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Faith Ngige, National Coordinator of KPCG, emphasized the critical role of agroecology in building climate resilience and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farmers.
Ms. Stellamaris Muleh, Country Director of Fastenaktionnaktion and Program Coordinator at Act for Change Trust, underscored the importance of justice-centered climate actions that uplift women, youth, and marginalized farmers in climate governance.
Father Januarius Kioko, representing the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, commended the collaboration among civil society and county actors, noting that protecting the environment is both a moral and practical responsibility.
The event was officially graced by Hon. Rita Ndunda, CECM for the Department of Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock and Cooperative Development -Machakos County, who conveyed greetings from Hon Wavinya Ndeti Governor and reaffirmed the countyโs commitment to sustainable agriculture and climate action.
Over the two days, participants explored agroecological practices, policy gaps, carbon trading, and Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) opportunitiesโculminating in the development of the Machakos County Communique outlining actionable priorities and policy asks for scaling climate-resilient agroecological systems.
The workshop successfully empowered communities to understand the shift from practice to policy and the pivotal role they play in shaping agroecology instruments that provide an enabling framework for transformation.
